The Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA), Public Health Services is seeking qualified individuals for the position of SENIOR PUBLIC HEALTH NURSESenior Public Health Nurses perform professional public health nursing in homes, public health centers, and other community settings.

As a Senior Public Health Nurse, you will act as a lead nurse providing consultation, conducting home visits in urban and rural communities, assessing and identifying individual and community health needs, and providing case management to high-risk populations.

The list established from this recruitment will be used to fill vacancies in various HHSA departments. This position will be heavily involved in conducting outreach, including making community program presentations and collaborating with area schools, community clinics, family resource centers, etc.

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation, training, and / or experience that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.
  • Required education and experience : * Valid California Registered Nurse License is required at time of appointment; AND,* Valid Public Health Nurse Certificate from the California State Board of Registered Nursing is required at time of appointment;
  • AND,* A Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency, AND,* Three (3) years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a hospital or clinic, or public health nursing field;

OR,* A Master of Science degree in nursing from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency, AND,* Two (2) years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a hospital or clinic, or public health nursing field.

Note : Must have applied for a Registered Nurse License from the California Board of Registered Nursing at time of application.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS : * Ability to work at a community level with a good grasp of political and organizational acumen* Excellent communication and planning skills to work with Community and Agency partners* Ability to work independently within an office setting and in the community* Ability to locate, develop, and distribute resources to school staff, community partners, families, health care providers, and HHSA personnel* Experience with writing policies, procedures, and guidelines* Experience with communicable disease investigation, providing post-exposure prophylaxis and recommendations, and performing specimen collection (venipuncture, throat / nasal swabs, etc.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENTAs part of the County of San Diego's pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment.

Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position. Note : Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.

EVALUTION PROCESSQualified applicants will be placed on a six (6) month eligible list based on scores received during the evaluation of information provided on the employment application and supplemental questionnaire.
