Description
The Department of Chemistry at the University of Texas at Austin is recruiting qualified candidates for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position teaching general chemistry and our undergraduate inorganic chemistry labs.
Candidates with a strong track record of university teaching experience may be considered for hiring at the rank of Associate Professor of Instruction or Professor of Instruction.
Primary duties for this position will be teaching multiple sections of general chemistry as well as coordinating and teaching our upper division inorganic lab.
The successful candidate will also participate in course development activities, conduct regular office hours and review sessions, and manage, mentor, and instruct teaching assistants.
In addition, this position is required to review and update lab manuals as needed, develop new experiments, work with the stockroom staff to ensure proper chemical inventory and other supplies are on hand, perform basic instrument maintenance and repair, ensure proper safety protocols are followed in the labs including arranging for timely pickup of waste, and other lab course related duties as necessary.
All ranks carry a nine-month appointment, renewed annually based on demonstrated teaching excellence and need of the department.
Summer teaching appointments are often available but teaching assignments may vary.
The ranks of Associate Professor of Instruction or Professor of Instruction carry an initial fixed-term nine-month appointment.
A candidate hired at the rank of Associate or Full Professor of Instruction may have their contract renewed annually as a rolling contract upon successful completion of their first year of teaching.
Rolling contracts are extended annually, on a two- or three-year basis, depending on rank.
Qualifications
PhD in chemistry or related field is required. Experience teaching at the undergraduate level is preferred.
