Job Description Summary

Position is for 1 year and renewal is contingent upon continued funding.

The high-energy physics group at UT-Austin encourages applications for a Research Assistant to provide technical and scientific support for our work on the ATLAS Experiment, one of the main experiments at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland.

Responsibilities will include carrying out the QC testing of electronic components for the LAr sub-detector upgrade at the ATLAS experiment.

The successful applicant will work developing QC testing plans and software, preparing reports, and maintaining a robotic test stand.

Some work preparing and modifying electronics (soldering on PCBs) is also expected. The job will involve hands-on technical and scientific work with the real-time electronic readout, as well as the analysis of data from the the testing.

Responsibilities

  • Perform QC testing of electronic components.
  • Collaborate with ATLAS physicists at CERN.
  • Prepare reports and present results.
  • Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications :

BA or BS in Physics required, with focus in experimental physics. Some previous laboratory experience is also required, including working with electronics test equipment (oscilloscopes, DMM), basic soldering, and analysis of data from particle physics experiments, and working with international scientific and engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications :

The successful applicate will preferentially have experience in data analysis in collider physics, experience in electronics design and simulation, software experience in C++ and Python, and experience in radiation-hard electronics development.

Salary

$32,000 - $50,435

Working Conditions

Some lifting and moving of equipment may be required.

May work in standard office conditions.
