The Social Marketing and Communication (SMC) department within FHI 360's U.S. Programs is a national leader in applying a science-based approach to social marketing and communication to address public health and other challenges in the U.

S. SMC currently implements a diverse portfolio of social marketing, public relations, communication, and training and technical assistance projects in the U.

S. that are funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health, private associations, and foundations.

In the past decade, our team has worked on issues such as diabetes, emergency and pandemic preparedness, obesity prevention, sexual health, HIV / AIDS, cancer, asthma, immunizations, violence prevention, access to health care, and tobacco control and cessation.

Job Summary :

The Program Officer III will provide operational and communication support to the National Collaborative on Childhood Obesity Research (NCCOR).

NCCOR brings together the nation's leading research funders - the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), and U.

S Department of Agriculture (USDA) - to address the problem of childhood obesity in America. FHI 360 supports the Collaborative by conducting strategic planning, communications, coordination, and evaluation activities.

For more information, visit www.nccor.org. The position also will support contracts with CDC's Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity (DNPAO).

For NCCOR, the Program Officer III will manage in-person and virtual workshops and meetings; oversee NCCOR workgroups and projects, liaise with project staff and external partners among government agencies, private foundations, and nonprofits;

and develop and maintain a range of communication materials. For DNPAO this position will provide communication training and technical assistance to support community-level efforts to prevent disease and promote healthy behaviors.

Major Responsibilities :

Plan in-person and virtual workshops and meetings; including developing agendas, researching experts and inviting guest speakers, and creating slides, etc.

Responsible for project management for meetings; including delegating tasks to team members, finalizing logistics, and ensuring successful meetings.

Manage NCCOR workgroups from project kickoff to dissemination of final product. Tasks include creating and managing contracts with expert consultants, tracking deliverables against contracts, scheduling meetings, developing agendas, taking notes, drafting call summaries, writing reports, and collaborating with NCCOR Members to move projects forward.

Current workgroup topics include physical activity, implementation science and measurement, but topics are subject to change.

  • Develop and maintain a range of communication materials, including website content, case studies, reports, blog posts, and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Use background knowledge and experience to suggest webinar topics and speakers, oversee planning and execution for webinars.
  • Ensure quality control of projects.
  • Deliver communication technical assistance in support of local, state, and community-based organization teams, including consultation via telephone, email, and in person as well as onsite and web-facilitated training.
  • Assist with developing and delivering high-quality training through various modes (in-person, online, social media, and mobile) in communication and social marketing to multiple audiences (federal agency leadership and staff, community organization leadership and staff, etc.

  • Contribute to new business development efforts, as required and appropriate.
  • May be assigned to provide support for other health communication across the department.

Minimum Requirements :

  • Master's degree in public health or related field preferred or bachelor's degree with 6+ years of experience with health communication, marketing, promotion or other communications methods.
  • Knowledge of public health concepts and practices required. Experience with obesity, physical activity, nutrition and health equity issues is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience with technical and scientific topics.
  • Experience conducting research and translating research into communication products for lay audiences.
  • Proficiency with Zoom webinars is a plus.
  • Graphic design and / or web design & development experience a plus.
  • Superior organizational skills and acute attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate written and orally in a succinct, clear, persuasive manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member, prioritize, and competently manage a variety of activities with multiple deadlines.
  • Strong client relations skills leading to high client satisfaction.
  • Motivation and willingness to take initiative and full responsibility for various activities.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.
  • Ability to travel for occasional in-person meetings and conferences.

Supervision Given / Received :

  • Serves as a team lead and mentors lower-level personnel.
  • Determines methods and procedures on new assignments and may coordinate activities of other personnel.
  • May serve as a mentor and provide guidance to junior staff.
  • Typically reports to a Manager / Associate Director / Director.

Experience :

  • Typically requires a minimum of 6+ years of relevant experience with projects management principles and practices.
  • Prior work experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO), government agency, or private organization.
  • International or Domestic (US) Program Development or Program management preferred.

Education :

  • Bachelor's Degree or its International Equivalent
  • Degree in Health Communication, Marketing, Promotion or other communications methods preferred.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Project Management (PM) Certification preferred.

Typical Physical Demands :

  • Typical office environment.
  • Ability to spend long hours looking at computer screen and doing repetitive work on a keyboard.
  • Ability to sit / stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift / move up to 5 lbs.

Technology to be Used :

Personal Computer / Laptop, Microsoft applications (i.e., Office 365, SharePoint, Skype / Zoom / Teams), cell phone / mobile technology, and standard office equipment.

Travel Requirements : 10% - 25%

The expected US-based hiring salary range for this role is listed below. Candidate FHI 360 pay ranges represent national averages that vary by geographic location.

When determining an offer amount, FHI 360 factors in multiple considerations, including but not limited to : relevant years of experience and education possessed by the applicant, internal equity, business sector, and budget.

Base salary is only one component of our offer. FHI 360 contributes 12% of monthly base pay to a money purchase pension plan account.

Additionally, all US based staff working full-time, which is calculated at 40 hours / week, receive 18 days of paid vacation per year, 12 sick days per year, and 11 holidays per year.

Paid time off is reduced pro rata for employees working less than a full-time schedule.

US Based Hiring Salary Range : $75,000-$95,000
