Description

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES :

Program Management and Administration

Leads assigned program(s) or project(s) and ensures they meet their stated objectives. Organizes, coordinates, and conducts workshops and other meetings.

Tracks relevant issues and compiles reports. Where applicable, and with senior staff oversight, recruits potential program(s) or project(s) committee members.

Communicates with and facilitates the flow of information among chair, committee members, and staff. Performs financial and administrative tasks related to assigned program(s) or project(s).

Creates, maintains, and updates records, databases, and files. Authorizes expenditures, tracks spending, monitors budget, and projects future spending plans.

Represents the program(s) or project(s) within and outside the National Academies. May assist senior staff in the development of programs / projects, including developing prospectuses and raising funds.

Logistics

Develops meeting agendas and material, invites presenters and participants, oversees meeting logistics and multimedia presentations, and prepares written summaries.

Communication, Research, and Writing Activities

Identifies and gathers research material. Conducts background research. Synthesizes and edits research findings and technical data.

Develops written material and coordinates / oversees publication of material. May edit reports, facilitate response to review, and participate in dissemination activities, including identification and engaging of external organizations, preparing dissemination materials, and conducting dissemination meetings.

Prepare background papers and technical summaries. Prepares reports on program or project activities. Determines relevance of data and prepares background papers and technical summaries.

Manages reference checking.

Teamwork

Collaborates with experts from government agencies, industry, non-profits, and other organizations. Works within a staff team, with the GOES Board, within the Gulf Research Program, and within the National Academies.

Assist with the development and management of workforce training programs run in collaboration with GRP’s Board on Gulf Education and Engagement.

Ensures required training is accomplished and participates in performance reviews. Serves as a resource to support staff.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : Knowledge of issues in applicable discipline such as offshore energy, renewable energy, energy social science, energy policy, and workforce development.

Ability to solve varied and complex problems using originality and ingenuity. Ability to operate using appreciable latitude for independent judgment and action.

Ability to work successfully in a team environment. Ability to develop relationships with co-workers and employees in other National Academies’ departments through effective communication.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to effectively interact with all levels of employees.

Minimum Education / Training Requirements : Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent knowledge.

Minimum Experience : Three years of related professional experience. Demonstrated basic proficiency in conveying scientific / technical / policy information in verbal and written form.

Preferred Education : Advanced degree in related field.

Preferred Experience : Experience designing workforce development programs. Experience working with offshore energy safety or energy stakeholders.

Experience in interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary projects. Experience implementing offshore energy health, safety, and environment projects.

Physical Capabilities : Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time. Ability to travel.

Required Licenses, Certification or Registration : None.

Supervisory Responsibilities / Controls : Reports to senior program officer. Sets objectives with supervisor and receives input and advice as needed.

Compensation Range : The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine support equity, fairness, and transparency in our compensation programs.

An estimated compensation range for this position is $70,880 - $88,600. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will be based on the candidate’s relevant knowledge, skills, and work experience, commensurate with compensation of current employees in comparable positions with similar knowledge, skills, and work experience, and subject to budget parameters.

Note it is not typical for a candidate to be hired at the higher end of the range.

Work Environment : Hybrid Office / Telecommute environment, expected onsite percentage 40%, with occasional travel between National Academies’ facilities and to off-site meeting / sponsor locations.
