Collins is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Field Resident Engineer to play a key role on our team in Salt Lake City.
The Senior Resident Engineer is responsible to provide leadership and direct oversight of the Construction Management team and will work closely with the owner to ensure the goals of the project are met.
Position Description
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Interprets construction plans, specifications, and contracts.
- Provides technical expertise to the client to ensure the project complies with all engineering standards, codes, specifications and design instructions.
- Reviews, analyzes and resolves issues.
- Performs complex engineering computations involving conventional engineering practices.
- Prepares complete engineering plans or reports.
- Is active in technical societies.
- Develops engineering papers and presentations.
- Plans, organizes, and supervises engineering and construction inspection activities (Projects over $15M Construction Costs).
- Responsible to act as the owner representative and is the contractor point of contact for all correspondence including submittals, RFI’s, contract modifications, contractor notifications, claims, and project directives.
- Ensures overall quality in the completed projects.
- Develops and implements a project work plan that sets the protocols of the team to ensure the goals of the project are met.
- Leads all project meetings.
- Coordinates project submittals, cost control, scheduling, reporting, and document control activities.
- Plans, schedules, conducts, and / or coordinates detailed phases of assigned project work.
- Develops, documents, and implements contract modifications.
- Develops and tracks project activities relating to cost, specifications, changes, and schedule.
- Ensures accurate client billings and monitors outstanding accounts receivable.
- Assists in ensuring that external client focus is top priority of the region and those systems, processes, and activities that focus on the client at all levels of the region are implemented
- Provides technical leadership in the pursuit process, including : proposal preparation, estimating project costs, contract negotiations, project quality, and project profitability.
- Proactively interacts with the contractor.
- Is available to attend meetings or events outside of normal working hours.
- Provides leadership to project teams and support staff.
- Supervises all staff necessary to complete assignments.
- Serves as a coach for other Project Engineers and technical staff.
- Actively observes and acts in an appropriate manner related to safety.
- Ensures that staff needing specialized training in health and safety procedures and practices receives such training and that safety is discussed as an important aspect of their work.
EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management from an accredited four-year university; P.E. License;
- appropriate continuing education; detailed engineering knowledge of staging, electrical construction, utility construction, roadway construction, and bridge construction;
and 10+ years of construction management or related experience.
- Must have experience working with Utah Department of Transportation
- Extensive use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power Point, scheduling software, and construction management databases / tracking software is required for this role.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Professional Engineer (P.E.)
- Ability to obtain certifications for material sampling / testing for aggregates, concrete, asphalt, grading, etc. (ACI, NICET or state certifications)
- Ability to obtain certifications for inspection of roadways, bridges, coatings, etc. (NICET or state certifications)
- Valid driver’s license
