Description
The Pharmacy Technician provides professional customer service to pharmacy customers and assists the Pharmacist with dispensing medication in a timely fashion.
Receive and process prescription and refill requests, and verify all the necessary information is available and correct on the electronic or written prescription and enter these details into the pharmacy database.
accurately label and package prescription bottles and containers.
Maintains pharmacy inventory by checking pharmaceutical stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed medications and supplies;
placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt; removing outdated drugs. Store prescriptions properly to ensure they're safe for use and that they maintain the required quality standards.
Maintains a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
Organizes medications for pharmacist to dispense by reading medication orders and prescriptions; preparing labels; calculating quantities;
assembling intravenous solutions and other pharmaceutical therapies.
Answer prescription-related questions and educate patients on the appropriate use of medication, including frequency and method of intake or application, and Refer patients to the pharmacist for more in-depth medical questions related to prescriptions
Process insurance claims, including determining the patient's insurance company and information, calling the insurance company to verify coverage, running the medication through the patient's insurance and updating the insurance coverage in the pharmacy system.
Requirements
Essential Skills and Qualifications
High School Graduate
Pharmacy Technician Certificate
Minimum of 2 years experience as a Pharmacy Technician
Customer service experience
Experience operating a cash register
Salary Description $17-21 per hour
