Instructional Specialist, English Learner / Special Education Bilingual ESL (226 Days) 2024-2025 School Year-(24000083)
Description
- Work in collaboration with planning teams (both at district and campus level) to improve the quality of service and instruction for English Learners who receive special education services in order to ensure alignment with district policies and initiatives, as well as federal and state guidelines
- Collaborate with content and enrichment programs, including literacy and social studies, to provide Els who receive special education services with equitable academic and linguistic access to curriculum and programs
- Create and update literacy and social studies curriculum products to ensure supports and meet the needs of dually identified English Learners who receive special education services
- Provide expertise and technical assistance to campuses in order to support the linguistic and academic achievement of ELs who receive special education services
- Collect and analyze district, campus and student data for ELs who receive special education services to assist in planning literacy and social studies instructional programs, making informed instructional decisions, and monitoring program effectiveness
- Provide demonstrations for teachers in the use of applicable instructional strategies and support implementation of the district literacy and social studies curriculum to assist with instructional improvement
- Assist campuses in planning and implementing support for ELs who receive special education services across all disciplines, including literacy and social studies to achieve both campus and district achievement targets
- Create and conduct professional development for teachers, administrators, and other district stakeholders in alignment with state standards, best practices and instructional strategies for ELs who receive special education services as requested by campuses and / or other district stakeholders
- Maintain training calendars, related attendance reports and documentation, and handle logistics of training sessions
- Keep abreast of current professional research and legislation affecting literacy and social studies education programs for ELs and students who receive special education services
- Create and recommend supplemental resources to support campus implementation of literacy and social studies programs for ELs who receive special education services
- Assist in planning as well as facilitate extended year opportunities for ELs who receive special education services
- Contribute as a constructive and collaborative Teaching and Learning team member
- Work required evenings and Saturdays as required for Bilingual ESL Department and district events
- All federally funded incumbents of this position must comply with time and effort reporting requirements through personnel activity reports or periodic certification, as appropriate.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree, valid Teacher Certification, Bilingual / ESL Certification and / or Special Education Certification, Master's preferred
- Five years of successful teaching experience working with English Learners or students receiving special education services
- Knowledge of second language acquisition special education supports
- Extensive knowledge of curriculum and instructional resources related to Bilingual / ESL and Special Education programs
- Program development, implementation, presentation and training skills required
- Excellent organizational, oral and written communication, problem solving, and interpersonal skill required to achieve the goals of the position
