Vista Medical Center is seeking an experienced and dedicated EMS QA / QI Coordinator to join our team. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing the quality and performance of the EMS system through the development and implementation of comprehensive education and quality assurance programs.
This position requires a proactive approach to analyze and meet the educational needs of new and existing providers while ensuring compliance with state and national standards.
Key Responsibilities : EMS System Educator Responsibilities :
Educational Program Development :
- Analyze the developmental and educational needs of EMS providers.
- Develop, implement, and lead ongoing educational programs that are aligned with the strategic goals of the EMS system.
- Continuously assess and improve training content and delivery methods based on feedback and best practices.
Provider Orientation Program :
- Manage the orientation program for new EMS providers, including documentation of training progress, feedback, and competency evaluations.
- Create new orientation components to address evolving needs and ensure a smooth onboarding process.
Annual EMS System Competencies :
- Develop and monitor the implementation of annual competency assessments to ensure all EMS providers meet required skills and knowledge benchmarks.
- Evaluate results and provide individualized training as needed.
Process Improvement & Clinical Practice Development :
- Research current medical practices to identify opportunities for improving patient care outcomes.
- Document, implement, and train providers on new clinical practices and protocols to ensure high-quality pre-hospital care.
Budgetary Support :
- Assist the EMS System Manager in developing and managing the education budget.
- Identify needs for educational materials, supplies, and resources to support system-wide educational initiatives.
EMS Administrative Director / COAMPS Program Director Support :
Administrative Collaboration :
Work closely with key EMS personnel to address problem-solving and administrative matters impacting the EMS system.
Public Relations & Community Engagement :
Manage public relations efforts related to pre-hospital care to promote the EMS system's services and programs.
System Operations Management :
Assist in the development and oversight of EMS system operations, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and organizational goals.
Budgeting & Resource Allocation :
Contribute to budgeting for educational supplies, training resources, and communication equipment to support effective EMS system operations.
Committee Leadership :
Chair the Southwestern Illinois EMS System Advisory Committee and facilitate discussions on system improvements and strategic planning.
Accreditation Maintenance :
Maintain the accredited Paramedic Program through COAMPS (Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the EMS Professions) by adhering to accreditation standards and participating in relevant reviews.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree in Emergency Medical Services, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of EMS experience with at least 2 years in an educational or leadership role.
- Certified Paramedic or RN licensure (Illinois state licensure preferred).
- Knowledge of COAMPS accreditation standards and experience with paramedic education program management.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to analyze data and develop actionable improvement plans.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EMS-specific software programs.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Education, or related field.
- Experience in EMS quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives.
- Previous experience chairing or participating in EMS advisory committees.
