Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Provisional Appointment : In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered.
For provisional appointment, candidates must have candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55 b / c service as a Food Programs Evaluation Specialist 1.
Provisional candidates must take the examination for Food Programs Evaluation Specialist 2 when it is next offered, and must be reachable on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for a Food Programs Evaluation Specialist 2 position in the Office of Child Nutrition.
This Office is responsible for providing technical assistance and performing field inspections of schools, sponsors, and residential childcare institutions participating in the School Breakfast, School Lunch, and Summer Food Service Programs to ensure compliance with State and federal regulations, including the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010.
Under the general supervision of the Food Programs Evaluation Specialist 3, duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following :
- Coordinate a team of School Food Programs Specialist 1 staff to administer the federal Child Nutrition Programs;
- Develop, monitor and evaluate system processes to ensure effective regulatory compliance;
- Review and approve reports and letters for assigned staff;
- Ensure compliance with federal and State laws and regulations;
- Analyze program reviews, ensure review correspondence is following regulatory timelines, calculate reclaim amounts and ensure that corrective actions are carried out;
- Provide technical assistance to sponsors and agencies by telephone, e-mail, letter or on-site visits;
- Review and prepare draft child nutrition materials to ensure they are clear, concise and comprehensive;
- Assist with drafting and preparing summaries for NYSED's response and preparation for appeals, and
- Supervise and train staff regarding efforts and processes to ensure the fiscal and nutritional integrity of the programs including the development of forms, written procedures and memos for the website.
