OVERVIEW
To be part of a team that is responsible for day-to-day export and import compliance related to border crossings between Safariland US and Safariland Tijuana, Mexico according to applicable laws and regulations pertaining to such functions, as described below.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs daily review of US / MX border crossing shipments.
- Ensures proper tariff numbers are assigned as per to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States as published by the US International Trade Commission (HTSUS)
- Works with engineering, when required, to determine proper tariff classifications.
- Reviews import entries to ensure compliance with relevant parts of the regulations (Title 19 CFR - Customs Duties).
- Ensures records are kept in accordance with legal recordkeeping requirements (19 CFR Part 163) and company policies.
- Prepares and submits US CBP binding ruling requests, where needed.
- Addresses US government inquiries such as US CBP Form 28 Request for Information .
- Prepares and presents training on relevant compliance topics.
- Works with Safariland Tijuana export / import specialist where the need arises.
- Reviews EEI / AES filings according to Federal Trade Regulations (15 CFR Part 30) for shipments from the US to Mexico.
Direct the broker / forwarder to correct any errors.
- Annual reviews and updates of compliance manual and procedures.
- Oversees audit activities related to Safariland border crossing operations. Implements corrective actions where required.
- Remains knowledgeable about applicable regulations by keeping abreast of regulatory and procedural changes.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
- Minimal travel required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of previous experience in US import environment. US / MX experience a plus.
- Must have fluent comprehension, verbal, and written communication skills in English and Spanish.
- Must be proficient at tariff classification, fully understanding the General Rules of Interpretation (GRI) as per the General Notes in the US Tariff Schedule.
- Experience in MX tariff schedule a plus.
- Ability to identify and analyze issues; provide solutions.
- Maquiladora / Border operations experience is preferred.
- Strong research skills.
- Background in U.S. Export Regulations preferred (15 CFR Parts 730-744).
- General knowledge of EEI / AES compliance. (15 CFR part 30)
- Working knowledge Microsoft AX and Microsoft D365 is a plus.
- Strong and effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work at both detail and strategic levels.
- Ability to effectively work with all levels of the organization.

- Excellent Microsoft Office skills (high proficiency in Excel is a plus)
