Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an exceptional Professional Geologist with at least 5 years of experience, to help support our geology and dam remediation practices in Johnson City, TN .

This position will specifically support construction oversight for dam remediation projects, geotechnical field investigation, and instrumentation monitoring.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with the deployment of instrumentation used to monitor landslides and analysis of ground movement data;
  • Conduct dam safety inspections and environmental water quality sampling;
  • Assist with development of geologic models using EVS or Leapfrog to support site conceptualization, plume visualization, and groundwater modeling;
  • Prepare technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals;
  • Review and manage written document production;
  • Prepare for and participate in meetings with clients, regulatory personnel, and other parties;
  • Task and project management, including planning and implementing investigation and remediation projects, budgeting and budget management, adherence to schedule, quality, client satisfaction, and profitability;
  • Business development; including bringing in new clients and obtaining repeat business from existing clients, leading proposal preparation, and developing and implementing a business development plan;
  • Management and mentoring of junior staff and managing subcontractors;
  • Work plan development, data evaluation, and report writing; and
  • At times, job may also include fieldwork including multi-media environmental sampling, sediment sampling and characterization, drilling oversight, contractor oversight, and remediation system operations, maintenance, and construction.

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, earth science (geology or hydrology), environmental, civil, or chemical engineering. (required)
  • Advanced degree in geology or environmental engineering. (preferred)
  • Professional registration (i.e., P.E, P.G.) (preferred)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of direct environmental consulting experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • At least 2 years of experience of subsurface investigations on significant or high hazard dams. (required)
  • Planning and performing field investigations and studies (drilling, logging, well installation, soil, and groundwater sampling, groundwater modeling etc.

  • Demonstrated success in the development and management of clients. (required)
  • Proven leadership skills. (required)
  • Strong oral and technical writing skills. (required)
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
