Position Summary :

The Executive Director Jayhawk Community Partners leads the University of Kansas’ corporate partnerships and sponsorships program and the continued development of the campus convention event function, Jayhawk Hospitality.

The Executive Director reports to the autonomous Board of Directors of Jayhawk Community Partners LLC. The Executive Director will drive revenue, create new assets and provide support to a group of diverse departments that provide services to faculty, staff, students and members of the public.

Collaborates and works closely with the Board of Directors, Kansas Athletics Inc. (KAI), the University of Kansas Alumni Association (KUAA), Kansas Memorial Unions, KU Endowment, and University of Kansas Medical Center (amongst other KU entities).

Takes a strong leadership role in administrative transformation efforts, particularly the campus's strategic focus on revenue generating activity.

Undertakes a variety of cross-organizational projects, working in concert with other senior leaders at the campus, system-wide and nationally.

Duties and Responsibilities of all Positions at Kansas Athletics

  • Adhere to University, Big 12 Conference, Kansas Athletics, and NCAA policies and procedures;
  • Maintain knowledge of departmental activities, sports schedules, and procedures;
  • Foster cooperative working relationships with fellow staff members within the Department;
  • Support the athletics department goals and philosophies as described by the Director of Athletics and work to achieve and uphold the department’s mission statement and core values;
  • Maintain a positive attitude toward performing job duties and in working with other staff members;
  • Exhibit professional decorum at all times while representing Kansas Athletics, including routine events and meetings that occur outside of the office and on the road;
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all information obtained while an employee of Kansas Athletics including all private, confidential, or sensitive information and ensuring compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Position :

  • Lead the Jayhawk Community Partners (JCP) including divisions of JCP Sponsorship and Jayhawk Hospitality (JH);
  • Fully establish and provide strategic direction to Jayhawk Hospitality (JH) as an integration with the Gateway Operator, Kansas Memorial Corporation, and other University partners;
  • Negotiate and direct agreements with outside entities and other institutions;
  • Develop partnerships with strategic customers that are appropriately aligned with the university's mission; create new ways of doing business;
  • Make long-term strategic decisions that reflect upon the campus as a whole and protect and enhance the campus environment and community;
  • Interact with senior management on various negotiations; work closely with Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Vice Provost for Student Affairs, Director of KU Memorial Union, Chief Procurement Officer and Vice Chancellor for Legal Affairs;
  • Establish direction, policies and procedures for JCP and JH. Promote a customer and service focus;
  • Create, develop, implement and execute University-wide sponsorships and new revenue generating or value-in-kind programs and / or partnerships that provide financial or asset benefits;
  • Work closely with multi-media rights and sponsorship staff of Kansas Athletics and KUAA; ensure there is mutual benefit for all three parties by working to provide new revenue sources and not allowing any attrition of existing books of business;
  • Hire, manage, oversee and evaluate full-time staff members that are helping to drive new revenue from University-wide sponsorship, conferences and events through Jayhawk Hospitality, and new programs and / or partnerships that provide financial or asset benefits;
  • Oversee significant financial resources. Assure productivity and resource generation are utilized to the organization's and University's best advantage;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics or their designee.

Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university;
  • Strong skills and demonstrated experience in developing and negotiating external partnerships that support revenue generation;
  • Highly sophisticated skills in strategy development, systems planning and change management;
  • Proven record of achieving successful outcomes to complex organizational challenges; including experience transforming organizations and re-engineering major processes;
  • Ability and desire to promote people, focus on customers, and provide excellent service;
  • Ability to establish mission and goals at the macro-level; to lead subordinate management to develop goals in alignment with mission;
  • Expert leadership abilities to establish campus and department goals, and to motivate and influence others to achieve;
  • Ability to establish metrics for department and employee goals which measure effectiveness of contributions to efficient operations of department;
  • Expert project management skills;
  • Expert skills and abilities to work collaboratively and act persuasively in sensitive situations; skills in conflict management techniques;
  • Knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques; human resources and risk management planning; accounting and payroll;
  • Demonstrated experience managing significant, complex operating budgets and financial resources;
  • Experience managing self-supporting / recharge operations;
  • Demonstrated skills in employee supervision and HR administration;
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively lead, motivate and influence others.

Work Environment :

This job operates in a professional office, on the University of Kansas campus. The Jayhawk Community Partners and Jayhawk Hospitality staff members office out of Strong Hall.

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and various digital devices, including, but not limited to : cell phone, printer, copy machine, and other related devices.

This job requires flexibility and adaptability in schedule and the ability to perform job related duties on short notice.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

This position may require frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 25 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day;

and working in all weather conditions.

Travel :

Occasional travel may be required.

Hours of Work :

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work will vary based on the needs of the position. Early morning, evening and weekend work may be required.
