Job Title : Special Education Teacher
Job Description :
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience working with students with diverse learning needs and be committed to creating an inclusive, supportive, and engaging learning environment.
The Special Education Teacher will develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique abilities, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities :
- Develop and implement IEPs for students with disabilities in collaboration with parents, other educators, and support staff.
- Adapt and modify curriculum and teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Provide direct instruction, intervention, and support to students in both individual and small group settings.
- Monitor and assess student progress, and adjust instructional strategies as needed.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, administrators, and other support staff to create an inclusive environment.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, IEP meetings, and communication with parents / guardians.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education.
Qualifications :
Education : Bachelors degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field. A Masters degree in Special Education or a related field is preferred.
Licensure / Certification :
- Valid Pennsylvania Instructional I or Instructional II Certificate in Special Education (PK-12) or a related certification.
- If currently certified in another state, eligible candidates must obtain Pennsylvania certification within a specified timeframe as required by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
- Additional certification in a content area (e.g., Math, English, Science) is preferred but not required.
Experience : Previous experience working as a Special Education Teacher or in a similar role is preferred. Experience with various disabilities, including learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, emotional / behavioral disorders, and other special needs, is highly valued.
Skills :
- Strong understanding of special education laws, including IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and state regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Proficient in using technology to enhance learning and manage student data.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
