POSITION SUMMARY
As a Quality Technician, you will be responsible for executing operational quality and compliance related activities at the facility associated with sampling and inspection of incoming material, inspection / testing of in process and finished products, documentation control, investigation of quality issues, and product audits.
This position will also help ensure products are being produced in a manner that meets all specifications and brand consistency.
You will also assist in identifying potential quality risks and working with Operations, Engineering, Technical and Quality personnel to develop improvement opportunities.
You will use experience and knowledge to influence processes, standards, and plans to improve compliance with internal and external standards.
Will document results with a high level of accuracy.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Inspect, and report nonconformities found on incoming components, manufactured WIP components and finished goods. Paperwork includes issuing Product Red Tags and Recalls and Customer and Consumer Complaint audit information into the Quality software and publish daily and / or weekly summaries to support Operations and Quality.
- Inspections include inspecting and verifying incoming colorant.
- Place nonconforming incoming and / or manufactured items on hold.
- Conduct process audits on the presses in production, print process sheets and report any out of tolerance parameters to the Process Techs, Zone Lead and Production Supervisor / Manager and Quality Manager.
- Complete, verify, approve, and sign off on First Piece Approval (FPA).
- Train Production Team Members on quality standards, inspection techniques and requirements when non-conformance issues are found during the 1st Piece Approval or End of the Line Inspections.
- Perform Critical to Quality (CTQ) safety, functional and destructive tests and inspections on production WIP components and finished goods to internal specifications.
For example, drop tests, handle tests, water tests, door tests, color tests and checking that Microban has been added per the BOM, etc.
- Assist with quality record review and retention.
- Ensure compliance with the Quality Management System in applicable areas of responsibility as assigned.
- Ability to collect data, analyze it, and problem solve in a team-based atmosphere using structured problem-solving tools such as 8D, Fishbone diagrams, etc.
- Create Quality Alerts and post them on the T boards and email to appropriate team members.
- Administer all quality procedures as outlined in the Quality Assurance Manual.
- Perform audits on purchased products that have no written quality specifications.
- Communicate CARs (Corrective Action Reports) to suppliers via email and drive resolution and continuous improvement. Email suppliers on other quality and continuous improvement topics.
- Assist in defining methods and standards to improve product quality.

- Input all inspections, audits, red tags, quality investigations, and Discrepant Material Reviews in the IAuditor software.
OTHER DUTIES :
- Follow proper lifting techniques including team lifting when items are too heavy for individual lifting.
- Assist in maintaining a clean, organized facility through diligent housekeeping efforts.
- Use computers and other devices and handle with care, report any unsafe or malice activities that could damage the automation or computer systems.
- Security - every employee is considered a member of the security team and as such has responsibility for the security and integrity of the premises, equipment, inventory, and company information.
- Employees must be flexible in working hours available including overtime and be able to respond to varying workloads without prior notice.
Report to work every day, on time, as scheduled.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be able to lift and / or move up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to read, comprehend, write, and communicate in English.
- Must be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions provided in written, verbal or diagram form.
- Must be able to deal with problems in a variety of dynamic situations and make good decisions.
- Previous experience in Quality Control in a production environment highly preferred
- Must be able to use or learn measuring devices such as : tape measure, weight scale, light box, calipers, dart tester, drop tester, polariscope, colorimeter, go / no go gauges and thickness gauge.
- Must possess effective people skills for use in training and working well with others.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel to manage data and information accurately and effectively.
- Must be able to read and understand quality inspection criteria documents and drawings.
- Must be able to read and understand Bill of Materials and the Standard Work.
- Able to successfully use two-way radio to communicate on the Production floor.
- Familiar with root cause analysis, corrective action, PDCA principles and methodology and Statistical Process Control (SPC)
- Demonstrated time management skills. Good self-starter, self-directed and proven ability to work with limited supervision.
- Knowledge of injection molding preferred.
EDUCATION
- High School diploma or equivalent- mandatory
- Associate or bachelor’s degree - preferred
- ASQ Certified Inspector (CQI), Technician (CQT) preferred
- Minimum : 2 years’ experience in manufacturing
