The Summit Bechtel Reserve is a 10,600-acre outdoor adventure and education facility near the New River Gorge National Park, in southern West Virginia.

As a Scouting America National High Adventure Base, the Summit offers formative and transformational experiences to young people between the ages of ten and twenty.

Justice National Scout Camp hosts Scouts (youth between ten and seventeen) and offers instruction in more than eighty merit badge programs, across areas like aquatics, climbing, S.

T.E.M., arts and media, citizenship and life skills, Scoutcraft, and more. Our participants also engage in high-adventure activities, like mountain biking, whitewater rafting, and skateboarding.

As a quintessential Scouting experience, Justice National Scout Camp also offers daily flag ceremonies, campfire programs, and a variety of fun camp-wide activities.

Direct Report : Scout Camp & Summit Experience Program Manager

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Directly manage, coach, and counsel the Justice National Scout Camp program area directors and instructional staff, to ensure participants have safe, fun, and memorable experiences
  • Train the Scout Camp staff in and carry out the prescribed policies and procedures of the Summit, as detailed in the Staff Handbook and reviewed during manager / all-staff training
  • Communicate with participants and groups to ensure quality experiences; implement adjustments based on feedback and input from participants and staff members
  • Provide informal / formal feedback (mid / end season evaluations) to department staff
  • Write end-of-season report, to include inventories and recommendations for improvements
  • Provide leadership and participate in camp-wide programs, evening programs, and activities.
  • Provide leadership to the set-up, maintenance, and take-down of camping and program areas
  • Exemplify the principles of the Scout Oath and the Scout Law and model Scout Spirit
  • Promote the patrol method and the other aims and methods of Scouting
  • Other duties or projects as assigned by full-time and seasonal S.B.R. leadership

Qualifications & Training

  • Twenty-one years of age or older
  • Keen attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Must be able to secure a Summit driving permit, including submission of driving record
  • Previous Scouting and / or outdoor recreation experience required
  • Previous management and leadership experience / previous Summit experience preferred
  • Obtain the National Camping School Camp Resident Camp Director or Program Director card
  • Ability to use Microsoft Teams daily for work-related communication and coordination
  • Be or become a registered member of Scouting America

  • Create positive, memorable moments for Scouts (youth) and adult leaders during their visit
  • Make meaningful connections and build intentional relationships with Scouts and adult leaders
  • Contribute positively to the department and the Summit through your input of ideas

Physical Requirements

  • Multiple hours of standing, walking, or hiking each day and ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
  • Can pass the physical exam and approved for SBR height and weight requirements

Uniform : Summit staff uniform

Housing : 10'x12' platform tent; Staff Camp

Expected Weekly Hours : 55+
