Vice President, Environmental Compliance

This Opportunity
The Vice President, Environmental Compliance leads company environmental compliance and is an integral part of the overall HSEQ team, promoting an environmental excellence culture, pursuing continuous improvement, and positioning the company with employees and clients as a leader in environmental performance.
This position plays the lead role in developing and building environmental commitment, awareness, and competencies within the business and its people, driving environmental compliance performance, and in achieving environmental targets and plans.
This position can be based out of any of WSP US office locations. Western US locations are preferred.
Your Impact
- Lead enhancement and implementation of environmental compliance standards, procedures, and training, aligning with WSP policies and industry best practices and trends.
- Lead the environmental events reporting program, including incident reporting, response, investigation, and data analysis to identify and pursue points of improvement.
- Create and monitor effective leading indicators for environmental performance.
- Proactively engage with operations and Facilities to understand key environmental compliance risks and develop and implement effective risk controls.
- Lead and oversee project environmental risk management program, including improving risk identification at the opportunity and execution stages, and providing the businesses with environmental compliance risk management tools and training.
- Create and direct a network of environmental compliance experts within the HSEQ team and broader organization to facilitate implementation of the environmental program.
- Create and manage program to educate and support business operations and facilities in waste management protocols, standards, and training needs.
- Lead and oversee key competency development within the HSEQ and extended team to address environmental compliance priorities.
- Lead the environmental aspects of contractor prequalification and performance monitoring program.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for innovation in the enhancement of the environmental program.
- Remain current with new and changing environmental regulatory / legislative requirements and emerging issues / trends, while initiating action to ensure programs, policies and practices are compliant.
- In collaboration with the HSEQ Center of Innovation, lead environmental compliance component of the compliance audit program.
- Regular interaction with USA and Global HSEQ teams, Service Line leaders, Project Delivery, Procurement, operations, regulators, contractors
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Relevant undergraduate degree or equivalent experience.
- At least 15 years of experience in an environmental compliance management role, with 10+ years in a management role working closely with leadership teams.
- Proven environmental leadership track record and reputation.
- Expertise in developing, implementing, and managing environmental standards, procedures, and guidance across multiple business types.
- Expertise in project environmental risk assessment and risk management plans, including managing subcontractor environmental risks.
- Comprehensive knowledge and expertise in environmental compliance and reporting requirements and regulations.
- Comprehensive knowledge and expertise in waste management, and pollution prevention regulatory requirements and best practices, including RCRA and CERCLA.
- Expertise in Environmental incident response, reporting, investigation, and training.
- Ability to quickly establish credibility and build effective relationships.
- Highly collaborative, with the proven ability to form, facilitate and maintain cross-business teams.
- Experience in compliance and / or systems auditing
- Excellent interpersonal communication and influencing skills with ability to communicate well with all levels of the organization.
- Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
- Working knowledge of HSEQ integrated systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Environmental Manager (CEM)
- ISO 140001 auditor
- Working knowledge of Mining, Federal, and Construction Management / Program Management projects and programs.

Compensation :
Expected Salary (all locations) : $125,500 - $231,990
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and / or federal law.
Expected Salary (Colorado only) : $125,500 - $217,800
