The technology that powers Mainspring’s Linear Generator is unlike any other generator technology on the market. The Linear Generator relies on innovative electrical power and control hardware systems to achieve its best-in-class efficiency while meeting the world’s strictest emissions requirements.
These electrical hardware systems are designed by a talented team of engineers that own hardware design from initial concept through test and manufacturing.
Responsibilities :
We have a technical leadership opportunity for an engineer to own battery system design for the Linear Generator. As a member of the electrical and electromechanical team, you will :
- Own the design and development of a high voltage (800V+) battery pack(s) to enable backup battery operation of the Linear Generator.
- Manage the technical relationship with 3rd party partners who will jointly develop and manufacture the battery packs.
- Develop design requirements for the battery pack and its battery management system (BMS) to ensure robust and reliable operation of the battery pack over its lifetime.
- Coordinate system modeling exercises to capture all corner case design considerations.
- Lead battery pack integration, validation and reliability testing.
- Facilitate battery pack safety certification to applicable UL standards (e.g. UL 1973) and drive a battery safety culture internally.
- Collaborate with mechanical, controls, software, test, manufacturing and operations teams to deliver a battery pack solution to production.
- Serve as Mainspring’s internal expert on the battery system.
This is a hybrid position (onsite + remote) and will require you to be onsite as required to perform testing, troubleshooting, manufacturing support, etc.
Qualifications :
- 11+ years of experience in electrical hardware development.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with high voltage battery development and integration into an electrical system.
- Technical expertise in the high voltage and low voltage aspects of battery design, including understanding BMS fundamentals.
- Experience managing a joint development manufacturer, contract manufacturer, or similar.
- Strong leadership and project management skills.
- A collaborate-first mindset and have successfully communicated across a range of teams and personalities.
- A bachelor’s degree, or higher, in Electrical Engineering or related field.
Nice-to-haves :
- Expertise in different battery chemistries, and the ability to explain the relative strengths and weaknesses of each chemistry.
- Experience in the full hardware development life cycle, from requirements development to manufacturing support; having taken at least one product through volume manufacturing.
- Experience working at a startup or rapid development environment.
The Bay Area salary for this role is $160k-$175k base + pre-IPO stock options + benefits. This is a hybrid position (onsite + remote) in Menlo Park, CA.
The salary will be adjusted based on the experience of the employee.
