ACCA is looking for a Director of Development to complete our leadership team and manage the strategic growth and coordination of our fundraising efforts.
About Us : Founded in 1967, the Athens Community Council on Aging is a private, non-profit organization providing services to older adults and adults with disabilities in 26 counties of Northeast and East Georgia.
Through innovative programs and service delivery, ACCA provides opportunities for individuals of all ages and abilities to age and live well.
Reporting to the President / CEO, the Director of Development will be responsible for the design and implementation of ACCA’s fundraising efforts with an emphasis on major gifts.
This person will cultivate and manage ACCA’s culture of generosity and gratitude and ensure that all ambassadors (board, CEO and staff) have what they need to be successful in their efforts to increase financial resources.
The Director of Development’s focus will be working as a close and trusted partner to the CEO to evaluate, re-envision, and invigorate ACCA’s already successful fundraising capabilities.
The role of this position is not to save the day but to dream about the next day. The Director of Development will be charged with articulating and implementing a fundraising strategy to create a community-wide philanthropic response necessary to support ACCA’s mission fully.
This person will lead the efforts of the Marketing, Relationship and Development Coordinators, overseeing the planning and execution of all ACCA development and communication efforts, including special events.
S / he will work as a staff liaison with the Board Development committee to ensure that the board has tools and training and is fully engaged in the efforts to raise needed funds.

Supervises : Relationship Coordinator, Marketing Coordinator, Development Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator
- Oversee all aspects of ACCA’s fundraising activities, major gifts, corporate sponsorship, special events, annual campaigns, planned giving, capital campaigns, and endowments.
- Fully embrace ACCA’s mission, communicate persuasively the organization’s important history and innovative vision, and present the case for funding with authority, conviction, and urgency.
- Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to achieve annual revenue goals while ensuring the organization's long-term financial sustainability.
- Oversee and work to enhance the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of new, current, and lapsed donors, including individual and institutional funding sources.
- Develop and implement strategies to increase donor engagement and giving through direct mail campaigns, online giving, donor cultivation events, and memberships.
- Collaborate with the marketing coordinator and external marketing firm to ensure consistent, compelling messaging supporting fundraising strategies and leverage various channels and platforms to advance initiatives.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with a portfolio of current and prospective donors through personalized outreach, meetings, events, and communication, ensuring high donor engagement and satisfaction.
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors, CEO, Relationship Manager, and other key stakeholders to leverage their networks, expertise, and resources in fundraising efforts and donor relations.
- Prepare and deliver compelling proposals, presentations, and fundraising materials to communicate ACCA’s mission, programs, and funding priorities to donors, prospects, and board members.
- Review donations, pledges, sponsorship, and other pertinent transactions within the organization’s database with the Development Coordinator.
As necessary, process gifts, payments, and acknowledgments and ensure the fulfillment of related deliverables.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and ethical standards governing philanthropy and sponsorship.
- Prepare regular reports on fundraising progress and benchmarks and identify performance indicators for the CEO and the Board of Directors, especially working with the Development Committee to engage the entire Board of Directors in fundraising.
- Along with the Relationship Manager, represent ACCA at luncheons, conferences, and other networking events to cultivate relationships and enhance the organization’s reputation within the community.
Team Development / Leadership
- Oversee and direct the Relationship Coordinator, Marketing Coordinator, Development and Volunteer Coordinators.
- Promote a culture of high-performance teamwork and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
- Ensure staff members receive timely and appropriate training and development.
- Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach. Assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, and monitor and evaluate results.
- Raise the bar for excellence and celebrate progress.
Strategy, Vision, Leadership
- Serve as a member of ACCA’s Leadership Team and contribute to the development of ACCA’s strategic goals and objectives.
- Maintain continuous lines of communication, keeping the CEO informed of all critical issues.
Essential Requirements :
- We stay busy but like to have fun! A great sense of humor is a must!
- In love with ACCA and its mission and ready to shout it from the rooftops.
- Impeccable written and oral communication skills.
- Ridiculously detail oriented.
- Knows how to build a relationship via phone or email.
- A minimum of three years experience in a fundraising role.
- Goal oriented.
- Able to work some evenings and weekends.
- Valid Georgia Driver’s License required.

We will receive and review resumes through August 30, 2024. We will begin scheduling interviews on September 9th, 2024. In-person interviews will begin on September 16th, 2024.
Finalists will be invited to a second-round interview, and we will make an offer shortly after. We would like to have the selected candidate start no later than middle to late October.
