Position Information
Adjunct faculty are needed to teach undergraduate laboratories in Biochemistry and Chemistry at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
Opportunities may be available in subsequent semesters. Responsibilities Typical duties of adjunct instructors include but aren’t limited to :
- Become knowledgeable about the course learning objectives and content.
- Teach undergraduate students in general education and / or major course laboratories.
- Manage the class syllabus and ensure that content and delivery meet department and college standards.
- Ensure safety, deliver instruction, and supervise lab activities to develop student laboratory skills and critical thinking.
- Grade assigned activities, quizzes, laboratory reports and / or exams.
- Assign grades for students based on participation, performance in class, assignments, and examinations.
- Report student learning accomplishments on all outcomes through class reviews, and analysis of student data.
- Collaborate with colleagues on course curriculum and pedagogy.
- Advise students on how to be successful in class.
- Manage a diverse classroom / laboratory environment to support student learning.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Adjuncts teach laboratory courses in a face-to-face setting using the learning management system (LMS) Blackboard. Laboratory sections meet 3 hours one day per week.
Multiple sections are generally assigned. Classification 25- Education, Training, and Library Occupations Required Qualifications Master’s Degree in the appropriate scientific discipline, or a closely related one.
Preferred Qualifications PhD and / or previous teaching experience a plus. Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Ability to teach, work in a diverse setting, and excellent communication skills.
