Summary
This position administers the prescribed therapeutic radiation dose to a predetermined treatment area for patients. The incumbent is also accountable for the localization procedures necessary for preparing patients for radiation treatments.
The incumbent provides support, education, and teaching to cancer patients and their families and is also required to assist in onboarding new team members and educate students.
The incumbent is challenged to evaluate and prioritize his / her job and must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based upon physical, motor / sensory, psychosocial, and safety appropriate to the age of the patient served.
The incumbent must provide optimal patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients and families and will meet standards of quality as measured by the unit / department age-specific competency standards.
The incumbent is challenged to be exceedingly accurate in all tasks, realizing the effects of his / her tasks. The incumbent is ultimately responsible for administering radiation, performing localization, basic dosimetry, custom block fabrication, charting, performing nursing and secretarial support, and other related tasks.
The position is required to operate linear accelerators and simulators. This position must also operate electronic health records, record and verify system, and other software programs within the department.
In addition, the position requires skin instruction proficiency, phone, and EMR skills. This position is responsible for annually demonstrating proficiency in body mechanics, fire safety, infection control, patient safety, and CPR.
Incumbent must complete annual core competencies, specific to department workflow, to work on completion of the Core RT Competency and the Development Ladder Skills for this level upon completion of Staff RT requirements.
The Core RT Competency and Development Ladder will be completed within 3 months of completion of Staff requirements and then assessed annually after the first completion.
This position does provide patient care.
Hours : 7am-4 pm or 7 : 30 am - 4 : 30 pm
On Call : One weekend every 2 months from 8 am-4 : 30 pm
Education : Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English.
Graduation from an accredited Radiation Therapy Program is required.
Experience : None Required.
License(s) : Radiation Therapist License from ARRT.
Certification(s) : BLS Certification by the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
Ability : Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Radiation Control Program License for Radiation Therapy is required upon hire.
