The Department of Art and Art History, established in 1911, offers BA, BFA, MA, and MFA degrees and is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).

Brief Description of Duties

  • Candidate must address the needs of a student population of great diversity in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation through course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
  • Candidate will teach one or more undergraduate seminars in Art including The Artist in Contemporary Culture, and Medium and Message.
  • The courses may be a hybrid or online format but will have a substantial studio component and will be required for all Art students.
  • Participation in departmental meetings and assessment and evaluation activities is a requirement of this position.
  • The ideal candidate will encourage critical thinking and iterative concept development within class assignments.
  • Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration with peers working in all programs within the Department of Art and Art History is an asset.
  • The Department of Art and Art History is a dynamic department that encourages cross-disciplinary practice. We seek artists and researchers with a desire to have a voice in curriculum development.
  • Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a student population of great diversity including age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
  • Faculty shall organize all their classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).

Required Qualifications

  • Master of Fine Arts degree or . in Art History, Visual Culture or related field with considerable experience teaching studio art at the university level;
  • a clear demonstration of artistic and / or scholarly achievement, as evidenced by a significant portfolio of creative work with research interests;
  • familiarity with emerging areas of artistic practice and theory; ability to read and write at a high level and successfully direct and assess student writing;

ability to break down texts and make them accessible to an undergraduate student audience.

Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.

Anticipated starting salary :

L-A / - $4530 - $5405 L-B / - $5405 - $6786

L-C / - $6190 - $8554

L-D / - $7794 - $9385

Range salaries above are the anticipated monthly salary rate of full-time AY faculty part-time rates are prorated. There are 6 monthly payments per semester (full-time AY annual salary rate x 12).
