Job Summary :
This position is a full-time professional position in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics in the School of Medicine on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora.
This position will serve as a post-award and payroll specialist for the department and act as a primary point of contact for all post-award grant and payroll activity.
This role will be responsible for managing, developing, implementing and overseeing all post-award grant functions for all Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics Faculty, Postdoctoral Fellows, and Graduate Students, in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Department, School of Medicine and University.
This position will also manage all grant account activity for all AEF, CU Medicine, gift, and other funds in the department, as well as act as backup for the Structural Biology and Biochemistry Core Facilities.
This position will oversee the financials of several laboratories in the department and will be highly accountable for the financial wellness of all laboratories.
Furthermore, this position will act as the Payroll Liaison for the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics and will manage all departmental payroll functions, including funding distribution and payroll expense transfer changes.
This position will work independently, as well as interact with a diverse group of professionals and research faculty in an evolving professional environment to effectively contribute to the growth and accomplishment of departmental goals.
It is expected that these duties and responsibilities are performed at an advanced and expert level, and that this position has complete responsibility and accountability for all departmental processes that involve post-award grant management, as well as Payroll / Human Resource functions.
Key Responsibilities
Management and oversight of all sponsored projects and their expenditures in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics.
Analyze grant notices or letters of award and review granting agencies' policies to ascertain the specific policies, rules, and deadlines applicable to the specific grant.
- Manage and analyze each PI’s laboratory finances as an individual business entity. Prepare three-year forecasts for each lab by incorporating all available funding, all personnel, and operating costs into a budget projections model on a bi-monthly basis.
- Work closely and consistently with the Office of Grants and Contracts and external institutions to ensure projects, contracts, and subcontracts to and from the university are legally in place and in compliance with the granting agencies policies and regulations, including grant changes.
- Maintain a database of all current grants; track current and past grants and closeouts, award management related to award restrictions, billing and invoice issues, closeout, and preparation of Final Financial Reports (FFRs).
- Manage departmental service centers including cost studies and account reconciliation. Work with service center managers to monitor billing and accounts receivable / collection processes.
- Perform monthly adjustments and monitoring of Departmental Payroll Funding distributions, compensation, and job codes, according to awarded budgets for all sponsored projects for grant personnel effort, as well as departmental accounts.
- Complete tuition remission for graduate students and assist with completion of personnel effort reporting and material transfer agreements.

Hybrid This role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 1-3 days per week on campus ( Aurora, CO ) and as needed for in-person meetings.
Remote This role is also eligible to work remotely, but the employee must reside in the United States .
