We are seeking an experienced and innovative technology leader to drive Ally Financial's cloud engineering strategies and initiatives.
The Director - Cloud Engineering is a key leadership role responsible for managing multiple high-performing engineering teams focused on cloud platforms, Governance, Cloud Automation, AI / ML and FinOps.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in architecting and implementing scalable, secure, and cost-efficient cloud solutions across public cloud providers.
The Work Itself
- Provide strategic direction and leadership for Ally's cloud engineering roadmap, aligning technology investments with business objectives
- Manage and mentor teams of cloud engineers, automation experts, AI / ML developers and FinOps specialists
- Ensure regulatory compliance and audit readiness by maintaining evidence & collaborating with risk partners, representing platform engineering across departments
- Develop and enforce robust cloud security practices, continuously monitoring & documenting to meet audit & risk management requirements
- Architect and oversee development of cloud-native platforms, AI / ML solutions, FinOps tooling, cost optimization, and cloud governance frameworks
- Collaborate with cloud providers (e.g. AWS) to leverage cutting-edge services and shape offerings
- Assist with cloud adoption, enablement, and upskilling initiatives across the enterprise
- Automate and streamline cloud operations through infrastructure as code (IaC) and DevOps
- Actively manage and optimize cloud costs through FinOps methodologies and data-driven insights
- Foster a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and technical excellence
- Provide tier 1 and 2 technical support for cloud operations from the command center
- Serve as the cloud platform team's representative for identifying and mitigating risks
- Collaborate with AWS TAM to coordinate support activities and communicate impacts
The Skills You Bring
- Preferable Certifications : AWS Certified Security Specialty or relevant certifications
- 7+ years of progressive experience in cloud computing, with a deep understanding of AWS public cloud platform
- 1-2+ years of proven experience leading and managing high-performing engineering teams in a large-scale enterprise environment
- Expertise in cloud architecture, DevOps, infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform), containerization, and serverless computing
- Strong background in cloud technologies and platforms, with experience implementing governance controls
- Proficiency in FinOps practices, cost optimization strategies, and cloud financial management
- Extensive knowledge of cloud security, identity and access management (IAM), and regulatory compliance standards (e.g., SOX, PCI)
- Excellent strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and drive change
- Hands-on experience with automation, scripting (e.g., Python, Bash), and continuous integration / continuous delivery (CI / CD) pipelines
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field; MBA or advanced degree preferred
