Job Summary
The role is based on the Port Arthur Liquefaction Project site (7 miles south of Port Arthur, Texas), and works a 48-hour extended work week.
The successful candidate will be willing and able to work a reasonable amount of overtime and if required night shift, as needed to support safe project execution.
Assigned to the Construction organization as the Night Shift - Office Surveyor / Survey Cad Specialist (NSOS), responsible for providing survey computations and drafting support as required to the construction survey team.
The NSOS reports directly to the Project Lead Surveyor (PLS). The NSOS interprets design drawings and specifications to determine associated commodities and equipment locations and provides survey office support to the Field Engineers, Superintendents and Area Construction Managers in support of the civil, structural, mechanical, piping and marine installations in the work area.
Major Responsibilities :
- Supports the survey team’s implementation of the project safety, quality, and environmental programs.
- Provides technical support as related to survey to Field Engineering and Superintendents in a wide range of situation and configurations
- Establishes and / or verifies and maintains the project’s survey control network.
- Reviews survey contractor’s reports and prepares comments and recommendations.
- Provides oversight of the preparation of survey CAD drawings as required in the performance of duties, including generation of Digital Terrain Models (DTM) and volumes computations for quantity tracking verification.
- Works with field engineering to support field verification of materials as appropriate and needed.
- Scanning Survey Party Chief
- Provides laser scanning support to Construction and Project Management.
- Possesses responsibility for the accurate recordation of field data according to job specifications and appropriate methods of performing scan activities.
- Metrology Lead Surveyor
- Provides metrology survey support to Construction and Project Management.
- Possesses responsibility for coordinating all metrology work requirements, etc. with Field Engineering, Supervision, Pipe Fitting personnel and Welding personnel, etc..
Education and Experience Requirements :
Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills :
- Knowledge of engineering and construction methods and processes customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience.
- Knowledge of Bechtel’s Zero Incidents safety program. Must have a strong drive toward Safety, both on and off the job, a commitment to seeing everyone go home each day as well and healthy as they came to work that day.
- Knowledge of Bechtel quality standards.
- Must have a solid record of successful project completion with little to zero rework.
Knowledge of heavy industrial construction survey principles.
- Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to heavy industrial construction surveying field & office activities.
- Displays effective communications skills crucial to motivating team members and presenting plans in a clear and concise manner.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment, able to formulate a working relationship with survey team members, other departments, and contractors, and survey functional management.
- Demonstrated advanced proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
- Excellent problem-solving ability.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Survey CAD software, such as TBC (Trimble Business Center), Leica Infinity and AutoCAD Civil 3D;
- including proficiency with construction layout computations and generation of Digital Terrain Models (DTM) and volumes computations;
and drafting of as staked / as built data.
Demonstrated proficiency with transferring data to and from field data controllers.
Must have experience managing teams working on multiple work fronts; experience working under time constraints and must be adaptable to changing conditions.
Must be physically capable to participate in project walkdowns, which may require the following activities : extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing in or maneuvering around very small and / or confined spaces, and lifting up to 40lbs without assistance.
