The Alternative Markets Division is searching for an Underwriting Product Specialist, Senior Underwriting Product Specialist or Product Manager to support the needs of our customers and provide opportunities for growth.
You will be responsible for supporting our specialty programs, captive insurance programs and small commercial business.
Our program-focused business is a great alternative to the traditional commercial insurance marketplace. We are also looking to expand into the non-admitted market.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Create new and enhanced products by developing proprietary forms, rates, and rules in the support of our niche programs.
- Collaborate with Underwriting, Legal, Compliance, and Actuary to produce customized solutions for our customers.
- Prepare filings for submission to the state DOI’s.
- Understand policy contract language, rule pages, and rating plans and able to clearly communicate their intent to internal and external partners.
- Work with our corporate product development and compliance team to attain state filing approvals and to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
- Work with IT on the implementation of new and revised products and ensure delivery meets our expectations.
- Serve as a contact and technical resource on underwriting policies, guidelines, processes, and systems.
- Research competitor filings and identify emerging trends in the industry.
- Stay apprised of regulatory and legal changes and identify their impact on our business.
- Create and maintain product guides and internal reference documents.
- May have responsibility for performance and coaching of staff and may have a role in decisions regarding talent selection, development, and performance management for direct reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
- 6+ years of multi-line Commercial Insurance experience.
- Commercial Underwriting or Commercial Product Development experience.
- Experience with non-admitted lines is preferred but not required.
- Industry Designation such as Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Underwriting (AU), Associate of Risk Management (ARM), or Program in General Insurance (INS) is a plus.
- The ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize and execute the most critical tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills and capable of working with and presenting to employees at all levels.
- Knowledge of Verisk online tools, Word, Excel, Power Point and database applications such as ThoughtSpot or Cognos is preferred.
- Candidates for the Underwriting Product Manager position must have at least one year of leadership experience.
- Job level will be based on level of experience.
