Job DescriptionCollin County is seeking candidates for the position of Deputy Fire Marshal. Responsibilities include performing investigations of fire scenes by taking photographs, making sketches, securing scene of hazardous materials, documenting observations, collecting and processing evidence, and preparing reports.

Other responsibilities include conducting investigations of arson suspects by interviewing witnesses and suspects and conducting computer searches, assisting with trials by preparing documentation, presenting evidence and providing testimony in court, assisting with public education programs concerning fire safety, and conducting inspections and fire safety plan reviews for commercial facilities.

Performs nuisance abatement investigations and enforces Texas Health and Safety Codes and County Court Orders regarding Nuisance Abatement.

Completes necessary office work, including writing reports, researching to determine ownership of property, and preparing cases for litigation.

Majority of work will be field work in unincorporated areas of the County. Hours will vary and may include weekends and holidays.

Work is performed under the direction of the fire marshal. Performs related duties as required.Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes.

Level of education equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency required. Must have at least two years of experience in Law Enforcement and experience in fire investigations.

Must posses the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCOLE) certification for Basic Peace Officer.

Texas Fire Commission Inspector, Investigator and Arson certifications required. EMT-B license preferred. Texas Fire Commission Firefighter certification preferred or must be able to obtain within one year of employment.

Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Operator's Driver's License with an acceptable driving record. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
