How will this role help Canva achieve its mission?

As Canva continues to rapidly grow we are exposed to a broader range of external stakeholders, regulators and reporting requirements.

The Corporate Accounting team is responsible for managing the close process ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and transparency of financial information for all our stakeholders.

In this role, you will take charge of our Corporate Accounting function, ensuring the completeness and accuracy of our financial reporting timelines.

We are looking for a master of Corporate Accounting - someone who seeks to understand and redefine rather than follow the crowd.

You are excited by the prospect of driving the evolution of the Corporate Accounting function unconstrained, looking to elevate capabilities across people, processes, and systems.

Reporting to Canva's Accounting Leadership, you'll have a passion for making complex things simple. You love applying your deep technical knowledge and operational skills to solve commercial problems and provide guidance to the broader Finance Operations, FP&A, Tax and IT teams.

Your strong leadership will inspire and rally the team to successfully achieve our crazy big goals.

What you'll do

As the Head of Corporate Accounting, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the monthly and quarterly close processes including facilitation of the close process as well as supporting the operational accounting team.

You will also be responsible for the change management and policies that safeguard our general ledger and financial reporting structures.

Your expertise and leadership will play a pivotal role in evolving Canva's capabilities in this space, while ensuring that our processes and policies support the scale and complexity of a rapidly-expanding company. You will

  • Oversee the timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other relevant standards.
  • Lead and mentor a high-performing corporate accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
  • Oversee the development and ongoing maintenance of effective internal controls to safeguard our accounting and close processes and enhance the reliability of financial information.
  • Assess and mitigate financial risks, providing recommendations for improvements and optimization.
  • Drive collaboration across departments to enhance cross-functional understanding of financial processes and outcomes.
  • Streamline and optimize financial processes, leveraging technology and best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Identify opportunities for system enhancements and lead implementation efforts to ensure the scalability of financial operations.

  • Demonstrated success in leading Corporate Accounting operations function through rapid growth in a public company environment, with a proven ability to develop and execute effective strategies.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with a proven track record of building high-performing teams and continuously supporting their growth and development.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross functional teams to drive business process transformation and change management.
  • Extensive experience in establishing and standardizing policies, processes, procedures and controls that are SOX compliant.
  • Proficiency in financial software and systems; experience with ERP systems is a plus

The salary range for this position is $208,000 to $317,000. When calculating offers, we make salary decisions based on market data and candidates' skills and experience.
