Job Summary

This paragraph summarizes the general nature, level and purpose of the job.

Provides comprehensive music therapy assessment and treatment interventions for pediatric patients, siblings, and families.

Plans and implements individual and group therapy sessions for children, adolescents, and young adults and their families.

Primary responsibilities include : conducting group and individual music therapy with patients; maintaining accurate and up-to-date charting, data, and statistics;

maintaining supplies and organizing inventory, supporting community and donor relations; and supervising music therapy volunteers.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

Facilitates music therapy interventions and activities that are age and developmentally appropriate. Implements music therapy assessment and treatment interventions for pediatric patients and families.

Facilitates music therapy groups and one-on-one interventions. Builds rapport and trust as part of patients' and families' therapeutic support system.

  • Provides siblings with opportunities to express their emotions and concerns.
  • Supports special music-related events (visiting artists, concerts, workshops etc.).
  • Assists in managing patient generate materials for Development / Donor Relations teams (i.e. song recordings, pictures, video, program data, and clinical stories).
  • Conducts music therapy presentations (in-services within LPCHS and to general public). Provides support for special events.
  • Communicates all pertinent information learned through interaction with patients to health care team. Attends pertinent multi-disciplinary rounds and patient care conferences.

Documents and reports clearly and concisely, maintaining consistent records in charting system.

Assists with development of workshops, special events, bedside sessions, and music groups for patient-generated works (Primarily patient recorded songs).

Engages in HIPAA best practices for consenting patients / families to release patient generated materials (Stanford Children's Health Consent Form).

Works at establishing a good rapport and professional working relationship with all inter / intra departmental personnel.

Conducts in-service training to other disciplines within Stanford Children's Health.

  • Educates others on the use of music therapy and its role in the therapeutic process to promote healing and enhance coping skills.
  • Fosters strong community and donor relationships in support of Music Therapy Program.
  • Trains and supervises weekly volunteers.
  • Maintains music supplies.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education : Bachelor's Degree in a work-related field / discipline from an accredited college or university preferred.

Experience : None required.

License / Certification : Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC)

  • Knowledge of the important components of medical records documentation that reflect patient / family reactions and evidence of progress or regression
  • Skill in active listening, communicating in writing effectively based on needs of person / group and talking to others to communicate effectively
  • Skill in adjusting actions appropriately in relation to others reactions
  • Skill in assessing the performance of oneself and / or others to make improvements or take corrective action

Pay Range

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.

Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.

Minimum to Midpoint Range (1.0 FTE) : $73,091.20 to $86,340.80
