Position Overview :
The Principal Engineer, Contract Manufacturing will be the counterpart of the Contract Manufacturer (CM)'s plant manager role and will be responsible for externally managing the CMs.
This role is designed to create accountability for a CM’s performance by designating individuals to : maintain holistic view of CM performance;
identify risks and capability gaps; lead CM development and mitigation actions; oversee a cross-functional team to complete tactical tasks.
This role is responsible for coordinating a group of key cross-functional stakeholders from Procurement, Quality, Technical Services, Planning, and Global Trade (focus factory teams) to carry out supplier selection, continuous improvement savings & productivity projects, quality and compliance standards, etc.
Duties & Responsibilities :
Manage metrics targets with CMs; evaluate CM’s service, delivery, quality, compliance, and cost performance. Establish robust tracking and reporting process, working cross functionally to ensure compliance with internal / external audit observation deadline or other regulatory commitments and monitor performance.
Act as CAH’s expert in managing technical, logistical, and operational aspects of assigned projects and / or processes from initiation through commercialization
Coordinates process audits and 3rd party inspections; provide on-site support for 3rd party inspections
Support preparation of periodic business and operations review meetings
Analyse and support action required for key performance indicators through a balanced scorecard, business and operation reviews and continuous improvements across the region’s supply chain operation
Escalate risks and tactical operational issues with CMs and CAH
Lead problem solving on production assurance, scheduling, and replanning
Lead / coordinate capability building, product changes / introduction / exit and corrective actions
Take on program manager role for new product launch / supplier onboarding driving successful design transfer and commercial prove-out with x-functional teams
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in engineering
3 to 5 years relevant work experience
Contract Manufacturing management experience
Has proven Lean Six Sigma skills to deliver complaint supply and achieve highest quality, lowest cost and shortest lead-time
Working with external parties and / or leading cross function trams for commercial products
Will need specific category knowledge (Solids, Rigids, ELM / Testing)
This is a global position with significant focus on multiple countries within given continent (i.e. Asia Pacific) manufacturing, the successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of managing CM’s in these locations.
Frequent travel visiting critical CMs multiple times per month on-site; regular on-site presence for others; requires 50 70% travel (subject to COVID restrictions)
