About the Position
A Youth Services Library Assistant provides library services to a wide variety of patrons, including adults, preschool children and their caregivers, as well as K-12 students.
This position is responsible for creating and presenting programs for youth audiences and attending outreach opportunities.
It provides in-person, telephone and virtual customer service, readers advisory to library patrons of all ages, and assistance to patrons using the library's downloadable resources and databases.
For the Arabian Library position, special emphasis will be on work with a middle-school-aged population, as Arabian Library is in close proximity to an elementary and middle school.
This team values flexibility and asks that each member close one night per week and works 2-3 weekend days per month.
Please note : Due to this position being part-time, the classification is unclassified, meaning it is at-will and serves at the discretion of the City.
These positions have limited benefits.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
- A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.
- Six months of library or related experience.
- Any equivalent combination of education and / or job-related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
Other pertinent licenses and / or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department / section assignment.
Essential Functions
Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following :
- Provide and model exceptional customer service by making the customer the first priority.
- Establish, maintain, and foster positive, harmonious, professional, and effective working relationships.
- Create and deliver exceptional programming and educational opportunities within the library, through community outreach, and virtually.
- Teach and collaborate with customers, staff, and a variety of organizations to create content, to be effective consumers of information, and to be a lifelong learner.
- Communicate library policies and procedures, request compliance with Library Rules of Conduct, and serve as "In-Charge" person in the evenings, on weekends, and as assigned.
- Perform daily duties in a manner consistent with the Library's mission, goals, and objectives.
- Work at all public service points to include Customer Service Desk where payments are processed.
