General description

The Unclaimed Property Division is responsible for administering the state’s unclaimed property program and returning abandoned property to its rightful owners.

This position will work with abandoned safe deposit box contents, which will include inventorying, assessing / appraising values for tangible items;

depositing / withdrawing safe deposit box contents, and preparing items to be auctioned. We are looking for individuals that have work experience dealing with jewelry and other valuable items, inventory and cataloging experience, and excellent organizational and customer service expertise.

Salary Information

Program Specialist III : $4,150.00 - $4,749.00

Program Specialist IV : $4,750.00 - $5,511.45

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Program Specialist III :

  • Graduation from an accredited four year college or university.
  • Three (3) years’ experience performing job duties / responsibilities such as inventory / asset management, cataloging contents, identifying / evaluating valuables, preparing for appraisal
  • One (1) year experience responding to phone and email inquiries from customers.

Program Specialist IV :

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Four (4) years’ experience performing job duties / responsibilities such as inventory / asset management, cataloging contents, identifying / evaluating valuables, preparing for appraisal
  • Two (2) years’ experience responding to phone and email inquiries from customers

Preferred Experience for the Program Specialist III and IV :

  • Unclaimed property experience in the public sector or at a banking institution or brokerage firm.
  • Coordinating periodic auctions of a variety of items.
  • Experience performing oversight / final approval for tangible valuations, for items such as diamonds, semi-precious stones, gems, precious metals and collectibles, for appraiser review
  • Experience using a gem loupe, diamond tester, refractometer or metals acid testing.
  • Experience using a digital camera or flatbed scanner
  • Experience in numismatics
  • Experience in analyzing collectibles
  • Experience with Photoshop.
  • Communicating effectively in writing and verbally in both English and Spanish.

Preferred Certification :

Any certification related to gemology, numismatics or antiques

Substitution :

One additional year full-time work experience related to inventory / asset management or evaluating / appraising valuables may substitute for thirty semester hours of the required education, with a maximum substitution of 120 semester hours.

In this role you will :

  • Inventory, assess / appraise the values of items received from safe deposit boxes;
  • Lot and post items for sale at auctions
  • Assist in performing oversight / final approval for tangible valuations for items such as diamonds, semi-precious stones, gems, precious metals and collectibles for appraiser review
