Description

SUMMARY

This position is a seasonal position with a stipend. The role of this coach is to be responsible for assisting in the coaching of a varsity team, developing character, and providing direction to student-athletes so that they might achieve a higher level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork in basketball.

This job requires you to interact thoughtfully and respectfully with student-athletes, fellow coaches, staff, parents, and community and follow the mission of our school.

Positive communication strategies, organizational skills, and safety awareness are key requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification.

Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions, to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship.
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student-athletes.
  • Determine game strategy based on the team’s capabilities.
  • Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property.
  • Instill sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation at all times.
  • Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, and facilities, including protecting students from hazing / bullying.
  • Maintain and secure all equipment and uniforms.
  • Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
  • Represent Bishop Moore Catholic and the Tennis program in a professional manner.
  • Maintain nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or other appropriate administrator.

QUALIFICATIONS

CATHOLIC FAITH

Requires an appreciation and respect for the Catholic Church and its teachings. Employees must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church.

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE

  • 3-5 years of experience coaching tennis.
  • Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
  • Must possess knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, opponents, staff, parents, and students.
  • Previous head coaching experience is preferred.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the game is paramount.
  • Knowledge of NFHS and FHSSAA rules.
  • Demonstrated ability to instruct and supervise student athletes.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • The applicant must possess the abilty to relate to students and to serve as a positive role model and BMC Ambassador for all Constituents.

WORKING ENVIROMENT

Work is performed mostly indoors in an environmentally controlled environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit for long periods of time, lift at least 40 pounds, walk, bend, crouch, talk, feel, grasp, hear and perform repetitive motions of the hands, wrists, and arms.

Also requires carrying, kneeling, stooping, and balancing. Job incumbent also required to read / see up close and from afar.

A review of this position has excluded the marginal functions of the position that are incidental to the performance of fundamental job duties.
