DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
The Heart Institute at UW Medical Center Montlake provides a full range of heart healthcare and prevention services.
Our services include general cardiology, cardiac diagnostic imaging tests and procedures, cardiac surgery, arrhythmia management and electrophysiology, interventional cardiology, structural heart services, advanced heart failure management, heart transplant and ventricular assist devices (VADs), adult congenital heart disease management, cardiac psychiatry, cardiovascular genetics and other advanced services.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review and prioritize incoming referrals from multiple sources using their knowledge of each physician’s specialized skill set
- Triage incoming referrals to assure the appropriate specialist will be reviewing referrals
- Handle intake of each referral requests, ensuring complete information is received and entered into the electronic medical record system in a timely manner
- Schedule initial patient appointments either in person or via Telemedicine based on provider and patient preference
- Coordinates appointments for the patient at the appropriate facility and assists with urgent insurance authorization or financial assistance
- Manage and resolve a high volume of phone inquiries and messages
- Review appointment follow-up requirements and expectations with patients. Educate them to ensure adequate understanding of the purpose of each appointment and follow-up recommendations
- Offer financial assistance to self-pay and underinsured patients. Provide them with the necessary steps to apply for financial counseling
- Serve as a primary program contact to other departments, patients, providers outside facilities
REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of experience in the program specialty
- Three years of Patient Support Service experience
- An equivalent combination of education / experience
