How you’ll contribute :
As a Compliance Associate, you’ll be responsible for supporting the Brighthouse’s Regulatory Affairs Programs within the Compliance Programs & Contracts Law organization.
In this role, you will be responsible for managing the Regulatory Risk Management Program and coordinating oversight and reporting efforts among the Company’s various risk management programs.
You will have the opportunity to contribute to projects that will have direct and immediate benefits to the Regulatory Affairs programs and you will work with professionals across Compliance, Legal, and Operations to administer and improve these programs.
In this role, you’ll get to :
- Manage an effective, compliance-wide Regulatory Risk Management program, which includes ongoing oversight monitoring and testing, quarterly risk assessments, and ongoing issue remediation efforts.
- Coordinate oversight efforts among the Company’s second and third line of defense functions, including Corporate Risk, IT Risk, and Internal Audit, by generating Company-level reporting, streamlining the various oversight test plans, and optimizing the Company’s risk management tool, OpenPages.
Work in this area will also involve receiving feedback and taking direction from the other risk functions described above.
- Develop and deliver regular reporting to senior management and Company boards of directors documenting risk assessment results and remediation plan updates.
- Obtain, analyze, and synthesize data relating to the Regulatory Risk Management Program’s risk inventory, monitoring and testing, quarterly risk assessments, and issue remediation processes.
- Lead or oversee control weakness remediation through action plans, or additional monitoring and testing.
- Support projects to implement new and / or modified, data-driven oversight programs, including developing improved Key Risk Indicators.
- Review the current regulatory environment to identify potential enhancements to the Regulatory Risk Management Program necessitated by new and pending legal and regulatory requirements introduced by applicable regulators, including state insurance departments, state securities divisions, FINRA, and the SEC.
- Perform testing and monitoring and become the subject matter expert of key state and federal regulatory risks and market conduct activities such as replacements, NY Regulation 60, and SEC rules subject to Rule 38a-1 of Investment Company Act of 1940.
- Identify and effectively communicate any test findings to various business partners, lead remediation of the issues identified, and document corrective action as appropriate.
- Support regulatory surveys and annual filings and responses to regulatory inquiries and exams from state insurance regulators, the SEC, and FINRA.
- Perform other duties to assist Compliance leadership as assigned or required.
We’re looking for people who have :
- A bachelor’s degree (preferred)
- 5+ years of relevant experience in the insurance industry or in financial services performing in a capacity related to compliance, audit, legal, regulatory affairs or another related area
- Intellectual curiosity, flexible and adaptable mindset
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills & strong attention to detail
- FINRA Series 6, 7, 24, 26, or other securities registrations a plus
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements in financial services industry, including insurance and securities industries
- Excellent analytical, investigative, and writing skills
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) competency
