Senior Contract Managers are continuously working with a team, focused on the use of innovative contracting methods- and showing compassion by helping all of Cleveland Clinic’s institutes access patients’ insurance plants.

As a Senior Contract Manager, you will :

  • Negotiate contracts on behalf of Cleveland Clinic within an assigned business area.
  • Evaluate new business opportunities.
  • Manage administrative, legal, operational and financial issues related to contact negotiation.
  • Participate in contracting strategy development, including business planning and implementation issues.

The ideal future caregiver is someone who :

  • Has experience working for a provider in a contracting role handling strategy, negotiations of language, and data-driven rate decisions.
  • Has experience working for a Payer / Plan in contracting.
  • Is a motivated, strategic thinker and self-starter.
  • Is willing to continually learn and improve.
  • Likes to keep up to date with all things managed care and payer contracting related.

This is a % remote opportunity with the exception of one to two on-site Cleveland visits each year.

Responsibilities :

  • Prepares, coordinates and manages contract negotiation process. Identifies and evaluates opportunities and financial terms for assigned contracts.
  • Assesses potential legal risk in the context of contract provisions.
  • Develops appropriate legal and financial contract language.
  • Coordinates legal review.
  • Prepares responses, letters of agreement and key contract provisions.
  • Prepares and implements strategies for business growth.
  • Identifies and targets specific areas for development.
  • Initiates and develops relationships, tracks history and progress.
  • Implements contracting strategy for 3rd party relationships.
  • Principal contact for 3rd party suppliers, internal clients, and 3rd party suppliers in development and review of proposed agreements.
  • Review contractual performance of both parties to ensure compliance with terms and to identify conflicts or changes requiring resolution at contract renewal
  • Develops methodology and review models that consistently and objectively evaluate the financial impact of proposals. Updates methodologies as contract issues change.
  • Prepares responses to Request for Proposals (RFP) as required.
  • Proven negotiation and influencing skills
  • Strong collaboration and partnering skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex ideas in easy to understand business terms to senior leaders
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in healthcare, finance, marketing or related field required.
  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • Working knowledge of contemporary healthcare policies, practices, operations, and reimbursement methodologies.
  • Knowledge of physician practice management, hospital administration and operations.

Certifications :

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) preferred (for Finance related contracts).

Complexity of Work :

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Ability to understand "big picture" issues and ability to apply sound judgment.

Work Experience :

  • 5 years of experience in contract management required.
  • Experience with key financial and non-financial contract terms, legal issues and contract analysis.
  • Offset : High School Diploma / GED or equivalent and 9 years of related experience.

Physical Requirements :

  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.
  • Ability to work with physical records or operate a computer or other office equipment.
  • In some locations, ability to travel throughout the hospital system.
  • In some locations ability to move up to 25 lbs.

Personal Protective Equipment :

Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly : $40.48

Maximum hourly : $61.74

The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. While the pay range is displayed as an hourly rate, Cleveland Clinic recruiters will clarify whether the compensation is hourly or salary.

A successful candidate's actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate's work history, experience, skill set, and education.
