Full Salary Range : USD $71,500.00 / Yr. - USD $154,900.00 / Yr.

Position Summary

The Senior Public Relations Officer manages external media relations and plays a significant role in conceptualizing, creating, and executing a strategic and measurable communications program including ownership of the strategic vision of publicity efforts to enhance the visibility and reputation of the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health and expand media outreach in a measurable manner.

Salary & Compensation

UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years professional experience in media relations, communications, and / or journalism. (Preferred)
  • Minimum of 10 years demonstrated exceptional writing and editing skills, including experience in writing digital and traditional communications that are accurate, creative and results-focused. (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience and proven success in developing, defining and achieving strategic goals for digital and traditional communications exposure. (Required)
  • Demonstrated experience working on multiple projects simultaneously, with minimal supervision, including strong organizational skills to provide deliverables, on-time, by deadlines. (Required)
  • Demonstrated experience working independently, efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with competing priorities and frequent interruptions. (Required)
  • Demonstrated experience in dealing with confidential and sensitive information with tact and discretion. (Required)
  • Minimum of 10 years experience meeting tight writing deadlines and providing project deliverables on-time, without loss of excellent writing, using correct grammar and syntax. (Preferred)
  • Willingness to be on-call after hours to field inquiries from reporters on deadline. (Required)
  • Willingness to spend time with reporters on campus and beyond, as needed, to showcase the work of the school. (Preferred)
  • Knowledge and familiarity with disciplines and various fields of public health. (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated and extensive knowledge of best practices for media relations, public information sharing and crisis communications. (Required)
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to analyze information and situations, and propose alternative solutions. (Required)
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with ability to manage multiple projects. (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, initiative, resourcefulness, diplomacy, and professionalism in solving problems and making decisions. (Required)
  • Strong national and local media contacts in health, education, policy, the environment, nutrition and world affairs. (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated and extensive knowledge best practices for web and social media. (Required)
