Overview
The Director of Technology and Business Strategy for Essential Power will be Stryten’s central contact for evaluating, preparing, and submitting M&A, Funding, Grant, Military, Government, private and public partnership and other bid level proposals.
The Director will work with both direct reports and cross functional members to identify, prioritize, and drive disposition for each opportunity.
The person should be able to develop and implement tools and systems to create a systemic process, meet submission deadlines, review win / losses and other relevant KPIs.
Frequent reporting providing recommendation, status, and results to senior management will be necessary. Deep market and product research will often be required, and both internal and occasional outsourcing will be used to gather this information.
Provide thought leadership through conferences, university research partnerships, technology licensing, and participation in consortia to influence the direction of government policy with long-range (5+ year) strategies that drive grant and purchasing decisions through responses to broad agency announcements (BAA), requests for information (RFI) and occasionally through unsolicited response mechanisms.
Informs the internal development process of Stryten through product and technology road-mapping, providing high-level strategic advice on system engineering concepts and R&D direction that makes efficient use of all aspects of Stryten’s resources and aligns with long term market trends.
Acts as a technical design authority during project, product development, and engineering reviews.
Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty under the guidance of the appropriate supervisor and / or independently.
Essential duties include the following; other duties may be assigned.
Build a team collaboration culture between the Engineering, Business Development, and Sales and Marketing group as well as outfacing collaboration to customers, universities, government and other Stryten business units
Recognize opportunities to grow Stryten by thoroughly understanding the technology strengths of the Essential Power portfolio, as well as other Stryten business groups, and where appropriate, other Atlas Holdings companies
Develop new product roadmaps and articulate those concepts in a manner that can be used for internal development, for external funding and to potential customers or stakeholders
Liaise between Sales / Marketing, engineering, customers, and other third parties. to determine technical specification and application requirements
Seek and develop academic partnerships that align with Stryten’s technology roadmaps
Seek and exploit other public and private sector funding sources to develop low TRL technology concepts
Develop and manage pipeline of low TRL technology and advance them to a stage where they can be incorporated into the product line.
Develop a comprehensive understanding of Stryten’s competitors and articulate Stryten’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats
Monitor new technology and industry trends for opportunities and threats to Stryten products.
Recognize opportunities for acquisition, licensing, funding or partnerships
Make oral and written presentations
Effectively manage department budget for efficient use of funds and control of expenditures.
Manage the submission of R&D tax credit applications to state, local, provincial, and federal authorities.
Develop and support the Intellectual Property strategy for the Essential Power business unit.
Supervisory Responsibilities / Authorities :
There are few direct supervisory responsibilities, but the position will need to provide clear and understandable guidance to all other parts of the organization.
It is expected that this role will periodically draw on resources from all corners of the Stryten organization, in particular the subject matter experts in specific roles to which a current effort applies (eg.
a grant proposal for manufacturing equipment will require input from manufacturing leaders). This role will therefore require excellent networking and negotiation skills to ensure all parties work together to a common goal without unduly impacting the day-to-day execution of other roles.
Qualifications

Education, Experience, Certifications :
Strong technical understanding of Essential Power and competitive products
Experience with business development and M&A
Military and / or Government bid creation and submission process
Able to analyze ROI and present recommendations

PC Software Knowledge :
Computer applications knowledge in Windows environment with MS Office experience plus familiarity with operating within Google Suite

Work Environment :
Normal office environment is typical.
Travel, other requirements :
Typical 25% travel within North America and Canada
Periodic travel to Europe / Asia - typical once annually for 4-7 day duration
