Stability and Control Engineer

Honda Aircraft Company Greensboro Winston-Salem High Point Area (On-site)

General Summary :

Plan and conduct stability and control analysis using theoretical developments, wind tunnel, and flight data.

Duties and Responsibilities :

Predict flight results and compare prediction to flight data.

Oversee flight and ground tests, in concert with Flight Test Engineering to gather data required to understand and resolve issues.

Provide real-time flight test support using telemetry.

Reduce flight data for use in engineering analyses.

Work with other engineering disciplines to identify and resolve issues. 6. Develop and extend standard stability and control and flight mechanics analysis tools and processes to continue to build efficiency and capability going forward.

Analyze data against 14CFR Part 23 standards.

Education, Work Experience, Certification and / or Licensure :

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate engineering discipline; Master's degree preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

Knowledgeable in developing, using, and validating specialized flight mechanics prediction tools

Strong programming skills in tools such as Matlab / Simulink.

Capability with aerodynamic prediction tools such as vortex-lattice and panel codes.

Strong theoretical background in flight dynamics and a working knowledge of mass properties, applied aerodynamics, and aircraft loads.

Thorough understanding of 14CFR Part 23 requirements for Flight Sciences disciplines.

Familiarity w / aircraft icing considerations.

Theoretical foundation and familiarity working in both time and frequency domains.

Thorough understanding of rigid body dynamics, flight mechanics, and automatic flight control system design and performance.

Physical Requirements :

Incumbents may be routinely exposed to equipment operational noise heat-cold-dust, and / or aircraft equipment, parts, or fuel odors.

Incumbents may be required to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, climb ladders, move, reach or stretch for prolonged time periods with no restrictions, as required by job duties.

Work in a safe and professional manner while adhering to all regulatory requirements (FAA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, State, and Federal regulations, etc.).

Read, hear, speak, and see with no restrictions, as required by job duties.

Comprehend and adhere to management directions and / or safety instructions with no restrictions.

Effectively communicate in Business English language.

Pull, push, carry, lift, or move items up to 10 lbs. throughout the work shift without assistance, as required by job duties.

Pull, push, carry, lift or move materials / people / items / equipment weighing up to 501bs or more during the work shift, with the use of Company provided "reach assistance technology or "movement assist technology" (fork-lifts, pallet jacks, pulleys, dolly's, robotics reach equipment, people movers etc.), as required by job duties.
