Job Description

This position will collaborate with the director of research and intelligence and others in the Office of Enterprise Planning on efforts to 1.

monitor and analyze the finances and operating strategies of corporations, universities, governments, and foundations, 2.

analyze information and produce actionable strategic insights about technologies and industries, and 3.) assist in the due diligence process for potential strategic partnerships and mergers / acquisitions, 4.

conduct research to inform procurement, product / service development, and other management decisions.

The incumbent will be responsible for accessing, analyzing, interpreting, and visualizing quantitative and qualitative data from sources such as financial filings, published news stories, social media, published interviews, patents, public records requests, and externally-created administrative datasets.

The analyst will communicate analytical results through memos, presentations, data visualizations, and white papers.

Essential Duties

  • Describe and analyze the operating and financial models of corporations and other organizations.
  • Continually monitor organizations of interest to the ASU Enterprise and produce memos for senior leaders that synthesize developments into actionable insights.
  • Conduct business intelligence and market research, involving assessments of market size, prices, and competitors; identification of growth opportunities;

and evaluation of risks.

  • Evaluate the financial and operational risks associated with potential partnerships and merger / acquisition activities.
  • Analyze and interpret data and present findings to various university audiences, including senior leaders. Ascertain requirements of senior leaders for further data or analysis.
  • Establish and maintain business analytics and business intelligence frameworks and tools.
  • Select appropriate research design, methods, and analytical techniques (including statistical procedures) for a wide range of projects.

Use statistical software to perform data computation and statistical analysis when appropriate.

  • Prepare written technical reports and presentations. Prepare drafts for review, incorporate suggestions, and prepare final versions.
  • Manage projects and serve on, or provide staff support to, working groups and other committees as requested.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree in a related field and three years of experience in conducting research, statistical analyses or planning;

OR, Any equivalent combination of education and / or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a Masters degree or above in a related field (such as finance, law, public management, public policy, higher education administration, accounting, or business analytics) and three years of experience in conducting financial or operational analyses or planning, preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of corporate finance and management strategy.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial modeling principles, methods and practices.
  • Ability to analyze and compare business models in quantitative and qualitative ways.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of valuation methodologies.
  • Experience in analyzing complex problems using data.
  • Evidence of effective communication, including graphic presentation of complex data.
  • Experience in interpersonal relations and project leadership.
  • Ability to work effectively in an environment subject to quickly changing and potentially conflicting priorities.

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse;

required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.

  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and / or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.

The Office of Enterprise Planning at Arizona State University helps the ASU Enterprise to make better decisions. Serving ASUs President, the office is responsible for integrating all plans across the ASU Public Enterprise to enable strategic decisions and support investments that advance the ASU Charter over a long-term horizon.

This work is accomplished through close collaboration with units across the ASU Enterprise to understand emerging needs, create plans, and monitor on execution of those plans.

It requires our Enterprise Planning team to produce sound analyses, communicate effectively, and think probabilistically.
