Associate Athletic Director for Strategic Communications
Long Island University (LIU), an NCAA DI institution, is seeking an AssociateAthletic Director for Strategic Communications.
The Associate AthleticDirector is a member of the LIU Athletics executive team and providesoversight of all communications, media relations and training, broadcasting,publications, sports information, social media, public relations, and variousexternal operations areas as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
This positionworks closely with university staff and is responsible for maintaining contactwith all internal and external stakeholders.
Reporting to the Director ofAthletics, this position provides oversight of LIU Athletics Communicationsstaff, maintains an active role in the assignment of gameday duties, and servesas liaison to university staff for the purposes of public relations,This position is based on the Long Island University Post campus, but requiresoversight, and an active presence, of communications, broadcast, mediarelations, and sports information operations for all sports programs at both thePost and Brooklyn campuses.
Duties and Responsibilities : Oversees and ensures all processes, procedures, and systems necessary to directthe Athletic Department and assign communications and media relations for 38varsity sport programs.
Oversees all communications, media relations and training, broadcasting,publications, sports information, social media, public relations, and variousexternal operations areas as assigned by the Director of Athletics and isexpected to successfully manage, train, and develop a team of direct reports toensure coverage for all 38 varsity programs.
Develop and implement media training to ensure that staff and student-athletesare aware of best practices related to media requests and publicity.
Collaborate with departmental, conference, and association staff to develop anannual calendar of anticipate media activity and develop communicationsstrategies for all 38 sport programs.
Develop, and execute strategies, formaintaining student participation records in collaboration with departmentaladministrators.
Professional Experience / Qualifications A bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, marketing, or a relateddegree.
A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in college athletics, professional sports,or at a PR agency, or other communications division in the education or theprivate sector.
A minimum of 5 years of direct team supervision football and / or men’sbasketball preferred.A proven track record of managing multiple programs and execution fromconcept through implementation and measurement.
Self-motivated and able to multitask / manage multiple priorities.Broad knowledge of current events, industry, and business news.
Ability to work independently.Experience with managing budgets.Ability to work non-traditional hours, including game nights, evenings,weekends, and holidays.
Education : A bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, marketing, or a relateddegree.Master's degree preferred. Work Schedule : Requires the ability to work occasional nights, weekends, and some holidays.
