Description
The Lecturer practices law, teaches, and supervises law students representing low income clients in criminal defense cases.
Responsibilities :
- Trains and supervises law students to provide excellent legal representation.
- Represents clients and handles client load when students are unavailable.
- Reviews, edits, and approves letters, emails, pleadings, memos, documents, and trial notebooks produced by students.
- Advises students through the different stages of client representation, including interviews and engagement, strategy, research and other fact-finding, drafting and filing pleadings, writing memos, preparing for court appearances, including trials.
- Upholds and enhances the reputation of the TAMU Law and its clinical program by working with clients, community partners and students in a respectful and ethical manner.
- Provides organizational and administrative support in law clinic operations, including community and donor relations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : -Strong leadership qualities that help the Knowledge of legal research systems. -Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
Ability to supervise law students and assign and review their work. Ability to teach in classroom and one-on-one.
Qualifications
Education and Experience : -Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree at least five years of experience in legal practice, a minimum of 3 of those years should have experience in criminaldefense work.
Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses : Licensed by State Bar of Texas for a minimum of 5 years. The preferred candidate will have at least 3 years of work experience in criminal defense.
