Position description

The University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, Department of Public Health Sciences invites applications for a part-time (80-95%) faculty position in the Adjunct series with expertise in public health teaching.

Faculty in this series are expected to engage in research or other creative work, participate in teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level, demonstrate professional competence and activity, and provide University and public service.

This position will have an emphasis on teaching responsibilities.

This recruitment is conducted at the assistant / associate rank. The resulting hire will be at the assistant / associate rank, regardless of the proposed appointee's qualifications.

The position will be located within the Department of Public Health Sciences, and the successful candidate will be expected to participate in education program administration, accreditation, teaching, and curriculum development.

Among other responsibilities, the faculty member hired for this position will :

  • Develop and teach courses in public health for undergraduate, MPH, or PhD students.
  • Develop coursework and teach in the Public Health Graduate Certificate program.
  • Participate in service activities, including committee appointments and public or community service.
  • Work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment.
  • Recruit and communicate with community-based stakeholders and partners.
  • Coordinate with staff to organize 2 or more MPH Symposia each year
  • Advise undergraduate or graduate professional students
  • Participate in curriculum design, review, and evaluation processes.
  • Participate in local, state, regional, and national professional activities.

The mission of the Department of Public Health Sciences is to improve the health of people through population-based approaches by developing and evaluating educational programs, conducting epidemiologic research, engaging in public service and developing policy and other translational outcomes.

The Department covers a broad area of public health domains with a focus on health promotion and disease and injury prevention, occupational and environmental health, cancer, health care policy, aging, ethical issues, reproductive, women's, children's, rural, minority, immigrant and global health.

The Department hosts several degree programs, including the MPH, the MS in Informatics, an undergraduate minor in Public Health Sciences, and a PhD in Public Health Sciences.

The candidate must have experience developing and conducting public health research.

Applicants must possess an MPH degree from a CEPH-accredited institution in any public health specialty (e.g., general public health, epidemiology, health services, health promotion, etc.).

A minimum of five years' experience in public health practice, such as in a local or state health department or a non-profit organization, is required.

The criterion for appointment is evidence of teaching excellence, expertise in public health practice and evidence of public health research.

The candidate must also have experience with teaching in a university (in person and online), academic administration and interacting with the local public health workforce on behalf of the university.
