Building on an established partnership with Banner Health, the fourthlargest non-profit healthcare system in the , the Division iswell-positioned to expand its range of clinical services to include general rheumatology,Lupus clinics, Fragility Clinics, Rheumatology-Dermatology Clinics,Rheumatology-Interstitial Lung Disease Clinics, Rheumatology-GlomerularDiseases Clinics, and Inflammatory Arthritis-Cardiology Clinics.

Reporting to the Dean of the Collegeof Medicine as Director of the University of Arizona Arthritis Center and tothe Chair of the Department of Medicine as Division Chief of Rheumatology, the incumbentwill work collaboratively with the leaders of the College and Banner University Medicine to further the tripartite mission of achieving excellencein clinical care, education, and individual and team-based research.

Thisindividual will be a visionary, accomplished leader with demonstratedachievements in rheumatology research and clinical operations and will becomfortable setting ambitious goals and strategies.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Chief of Rheumatology / University of Arizona Arthritis Center Director will provide leadership, oversight, and management of day-to-day operations of the Division and the Center.
  • The Chief of Rheumatology is responsible for recruitment, management, compensation, and retention of faculty in consideration of the University of Arizona, University of Arizona Health Sciences (UAHS), College of Medicine - Tucson (College), and Banner University Medical Group (B-UMG) strategic plans and initiatives in balance of the tripartite mission of the University.
  • The Chief of Rheumatology will collaborate with the Academic Affairs and other educational offices at the College to ensure the department and their faculty are advancing the mission of the medical student, graduate student, and graduate medical education teaching programs.

The Chief is responsible for maintaining a liaison with other clinical and / or basic science departments to foster an integrated teaching environment for the College.

  • The Chief of Rheumatology / University of Arizona Arthritis Center Director is responsible for encouraging and supporting research creativity and productivity within the department, across the College and UAHS, and with the College's key partners.
  • The Chief of Rheumatology / University of Arizona Arthritis Center Director will provide leadership oversight and effective management of an active program of independent, extramurally funded basic, translational, or clinical research in their area of research and expertise / specialization.
  • The Chief of Rheumatology is the clinical role model and leader of the department's clinical activities. The Chief works with the Dean, Department Chair, and the B-UMG CEO to coordinate the clinical activities of the department.

The Chief is responsible for maintaining appropriate standards of care appropriate to the discipline.

  • The Chief of Rheumatology will provide direct patient care in the inpatient and / or ambulatory (outpatient) setting as a licensed and fully credentialed provider and member of B-UMG.
  • The Chief of Rheumatology / University of Arizona Arthritis Center Director is responsible for ensuring the fiscal accountability and sustainability for the Division and the Center.
  • The Chief of Rheumatology / University of Arizona Arthritis Center Director is responsible for encouraging and supporting diversity among the department's constituents, creating an environment of professionalism, respect, tolerance, and acceptance, working in partnership with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD, DO, or equivalent.
  • Board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine / Medical Subspecialties and eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Arizona.
  • At least three years of progressively complex administrative experience (, program leaders, center / section director, etc.

in an academic medical center setting.

  • Demonstrated track record of distinction in teaching, clinical care, and / or research in an academic department of medicine or equivalent environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient care, reflecting a service-oriented, team-based philosophy with hospital administration and health professional colleagues from all disciplines, departments, and specialties.
  • Successful track record of recruitment and development of faculty, trainees, and students.
  • Record of solid performance as a skilled manager with the ability to grow revenues, meet budgets, measure and improve productivity and outcomes, and undertake appropriate business strategies to achieve Division and unit department and / or enterprise goals.
  • If the individual selected for employment does not currently hold a faculty title with the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson, they will be required to obtain faculty status.

This will include obtaining letters of recommendation and review by the appropriate College review committee.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional health profession degree (, PhD, MPH, MS, etc.).
  • Experience in the development and successful implementation of new academic (educational, patient care, research) programs and services.
  • Demonstration of outstanding leadership in a major subspeciality division / section at a (NIH-funded) department of internal medicine.
  • Established and continuing independent NIH-funded sponsored research portfolio and / or evidence of scientific research, including peer-reviewed articles and extramural funding.
  • Demonstrated experience in academic program development, assessment, program review, and accreditation.
  • Demonstrated experience in fundraising and community outreach.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating research opportunities and enabling cutting-edge clinical trials.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing collaborative programs.
