The City of Aventura is seeking a dynamic Maintenance Supervisor to supervise, coordinate, and prioritize landscape and public right-of-way maintenance projects.
The responsibilities include managing work orders, assessing equipment and materials needs, estimating costs, and ensuring project deadlines are met.
Additionally, administrative tasks related to budget oversight, vendor coordination, and procedural development are part of the role.
Landscape maintenance, site inspections, emergency response coordination, and equipment operation are also key aspects of this position.

Essential Skills : Familiarity with maintenance techniques, a deep understanding of the South Florida landscape, effective communication abilities, and proficiency in interpreting sketches and maps.
Responsibilities :
- Supervises, prioritizes, schedules, and coordinates projects.
- Initiates and / or responds to work orders to conduct various maintenance projects.
- Determines and coordinates necessary equipment, materials, and manpower.
- Prepares or obtains cost estimates.
- Plans work activities to minimize downtime in equipment operations or work areas.
- Dispatches vendors and monitors the status of work in progress.
- Inspects completed work and reports damage / vandalism or hazardous situations.
- Performs administrative tasks including budgetary input and monitoring expenditures.
- Reviews invoices for accuracy and approves for payment.
- Supervises and assists in performing various tasks involving landscape maintenance.
- Conducts site inspections and coordinates tree removals and other horticultural tasks.
- Responds to complaints and questions related to the department’s activities.
- Coordinates response to after-hours emergency calls when scheduled for on-call duty.
- Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with department projects.
- Maintains emergency response readiness as an Essential Employee / First Responder.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Desired Minimum Qualifications :
General : Minimum five (5) years of related experience. Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.
Education : High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
- Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment for right-of-way and landscape maintenance.
- Ability to plan work and supervise vendors / contractors in public works activities.
- Ability to use or repair small / light equipment.
- Ability to maintain a safe work area.
- Ability to maintain necessary records and reports.
- Ability to read and interpret sketches and maps.
- Ability to communicate effectively with citizens, vendors / contractors, and staff.
- Ability to read, write, and follow instructions in English.
- Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to operate trucks and light equipment.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as directed.
Supervision Received :
Works under the general supervision of the Assistant Director or his designee. The successful candidate shall be expected to work productively without continuous or close supervision.
Supervision Exercised :
The Maintenance Supervisor may supervise Trades Worker I or II.
The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.
