POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK :

This is a full-time, Managerial position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8 : a.m. to 4 : pm. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Note : This position is in the NL category of employment (non-fixed work week) and have no claim or entitlement to time off or cash compensation for hours worked beyond their normal schedule.

However, unusual requirements for additional work time by these employees may be compensated by allowing roughly comparable amounts of time off, provided prior approval is given by the supervisor and Unit Head.

JOB SUMMARY :

Reports to Vice Provost for Academic and Faculty Affairs. The Director of Study Abroad is responsible for the strategic planning, development, implementation, and assessment of all study abroad and study away programs at Ramapo College, an emerging Hispanic serving institution (HSI).

This position ensures that study abroad opportunities enhance the educational experience of students, align with the college's academic goals, and promote cross-cultural understanding.

The Director will work closely with faculty, staff, students, and international partners to manage and promote study abroad programs, including faculty-led programs, ensuring they are accessible, safe, and of high academic quality.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Planning and Program Development Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for the college's study abroad programs.

Identify new opportunities for partnerships with international institutions and organizations.Ensure programs align with the colleges mission, academic goals, and diversity and inclusion initiatives.

Promote international opportunities and a global focus on campus.Write and oversee grants for external and internal funding to support international activities, including student financial support.

Program and Office Management Oversee the administration of all study abroad programs, including semester, summer, and short-term programs.

Ensure the quality and academic rigor of study abroad courses.Coordinate with academic departments to integrate study abroad experiences into the curriculum Manage program budgets, contracts, and agreements with partner institutions.

Administer study abroad programs and manage administrative and risk management issues.Hire, supervise, train and evaluate staff.

Student Support and Advising Provide pre-departure orientation and ongoing support for students participating in study abroad programs.

Advise students on program selection, application processes, financial aid, scholarships, and other logistical concerns.Develop and implement policies and procedures for student health, safety, and risk management while abroad.

Faculty and Staff Collaboration Work with faculty to develop and promote faculty-led study abroad programs.Provide training and resources to faculty and staff involved in study abroad initiatives.

Collaborate with other campus offices, such as General Counsel, Advancement, Marketing, Financial Aid, Registrar, and Student Affairs, to support study abroad activities.

Assessment and Reporting Conduct regular assessments of study abroad programs to ensure they meet academic standards and student needs.

Collect and analyze data on student participation, program outcomes, and feedback to inform continuous improvement.Prepare reports for college administration and external stakeholders on the impact and success of study abroad programs.

Promotion and Outreach Develop marketing strategies and promotional materials to increase student awareness and participation in study abroad programs.

Organize and participate in information sessions, fairs, and other events to promote study abroad opportunities.Foster a culture of global engagement across the campus community and college partners and stakeholders.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in International / Comparative Education, Intercultural / Global Studies, Higher Education Administration, or a related field.
  • Significant experience in study abroad and / or cultural exchange program administration or a related area.
  • Strong understanding of international education best practices, trends, and issues in minority-serving / Hispanic-serving institutions.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of risk management and student support services in an international context.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database applications as well as website development and social media.
  • Experience with budget management, program assessment, and study abroad online systems(s) is preferred.
  • Proficiency in a second language and experience living or working abroad is preferred.
