Henry Ford Academy is a college prep high school (grades 9-12) located inside the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation & Greenfield Village and surrounded by the campus of Ford Motor Company.
Students come from districts within Wayne County, as well as private, parochial, and home schools. The model partnership focuses some of the best thinking from the business, non-profit, and public education worlds toward the common goal of building a school that prepares students for life in the 21st century.
We are seeking a full-time School Counselor to provide a variety of services to students, families, and schools to help develop and deliver services designed to improve students school experience and performance.
Essential Responsibilities
Develop and implement instructional programs in Counselors area(s) of expertise and qualifications, in accordance with the program as established or approved by the Academy;
developed programs remain the property of the Academy.
Design, implement, and evaluate interventions for students experiencing learning and behavioral difficulties through active involvement with the Child Study Team and consultation with other school personnel.
Assess students needs through interactions with students, parents, and school personnel -Provide a written report of referrals and / or interventions
Act as liaison with schools and families to increase understanding of students needs and appropriate interventions.
Provide direct services to students via individual and / or group conferencing
Provide resource information to school personnel and parents.
Assist in developing policies and procedures in response to District-wide needs
Perform duties and assume other responsibilities as requested by the Henry Ford Academy administration.
Review and update students Educational Development Plans Schedule students into a plan of work to fulfill the Academys graduation requirements.
Build a college culture; work with the college advisor to create an appetite and access to a college degree after high school.
Maintain appropriate student discipline and appropriate conduct within the classroom and extended campus.
Your Qualifications
Masters degree or higher in a school counselor educator program
Successfully passed the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) School Counselor license (SCL) examination
Preferred Qualifications & Special Skills
Experience working with teens and families in a school setting and / or clinical therapy preferred
Experience with TRAILS to Wellness program and / or Character Strong preferred
Desire to work with high school students and staff from diverse backgrounds.
Will maintain confidentiality regarding student behavior and records.
Ability to communicate at various levels with students, parents, staff and volunteers.
Ability to work as part of a team in a public-school academy that includes teachers, teacher interns, administrators, support staff and volunteers.
