Job Description :
To be eligible to apply for this position, you must be a current student enrolled at McDaniel College. This position is open to both work study and campus employment students.
Position : ASL Lab Tutor
Reports to : ASL Staff / Faculty
Department : ASL Studies
Salary Grade : Tier I
FSLA Status : Non-exempt
Location : McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, MD 21157
Duration of Appointment : 8 / 7 / 2024-5 / 21 / 2025
Schedule : Schedule is at discretion of supervisor
Evaluation Procedures : Student workers are evaluated on a continuing basis
Scope : The ASL Lab Tutor will provide assistance in learning the material for ASL 1, ASL 2, and ASL 3 classes to undergraduate students enrolled in ASL classes at McDaniel College.
Responsibilities :
- Meet with one to four students per session, based on the ASL Tutoring sign-up schedule.
- Document attendance and provide brief notes for the ASL instructor as to how the student performed during the tutor time.
Comments will include areas of strength and needs of improvement.
Provide a highly personal and very interactive environment in which undergraduates can experience a positive encounter with a tutor while improving upon learned ASL skills.

Qualifications :
- Current McDaniel undergraduate student
- Must have completed ASL 1, ASL 2, ASL 3, and ASL 4 with B+ or better GPA
- Familiar with the Signing Naturally curriculum implemented by the department
- Demonstrate a competency in the structure of ASL and its grammatical rules
- Have flexibility to tutor students at different levels (ASL 1 - 4)
- Document attendance of students receiving tutoring
- Correspond with instructor (cc : ASL Lab Coordinator and ASL Lab Mentor) date and time of tutoring session, including what skills were worked on
