Primary Purpose of the Position
The Department of History, Politics, and Social Justice of Winston-Salem State University is seeking to hire an adjunct faculty to teach Political Science courses during the academic year -.
The department seeks exceptional candidates with a strong commitment to undergraduate research, interdisciplinary teaching, research collaboration, engagement with the broader public, and service to the community.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
These courses support the political science vital degree program. The University will cultivate a stimulating intellectual community that fosters and supports scholarship, including sponsored research and creative work.
The adjunct faculty will work with other faculty to facilitate the positive educational experience of students. Adjunct Faculty are encouraged to pursue new and creative teaching methods.

Minimum Experience / Education
Applicants must have a Master’s Degree in Political Science, or a related field from an accredited institution, and have at least 18 graduate hours in Political Science and / or Justice Studies by the time of appointment.
They must also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a commitment to a liberal arts education in a diverse educational environment.

Monday through Friday

Department Required Skills
- Master’s Degree or higher in Political Science with at least 18 graduate hours of coursework, from an accredited institution.
- Candidate should possess one year or more of successful teaching experience.
- Special consideration will be given to candidates with experience teaching : an introduction to political science, global issues, state and local government and, writing, and research in political science and public policy, and criminal & constitutional law courses.
- Ability to teach in a Historically Black Institution, sensitivity to the issues of social justice confronting minority groups in the United States and around the world;
an experienced, self-disciplined, compassionate professional who can act as a role model for our students by inspiring them to excel as they confront social justice issues.
The chosen candidate will be required to provide three letters of recommendation and official transcripts at the time of hire.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
- Ph.D. in Political Science or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Ph.D. in Justice Studies and / or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to liberal arts education in a diverse educational community.
- Prior teaching experience in a diverse university environment.
- ABD will be considered for the level of instructor.
- Prior teaching experience in a culturally diverse liberal arts undergraduate or graduate institution.
- Teach four or five classes per semester, teach distance-learning courses, participate in departmental reviews, and perform other regular departmental and university duties as assigned by the department chairperson
