Responsibilities
- Function as leader and clinical liaison with staff, physicians and management, providing continuity of leadership day to day; act as a role model, mentor, coach and resource person to staff to ensure unit standards are maintained and to encourage a team environment.
- Assist managers in attracting, developing, maintaining, and retaining qualified staff members, including assisting with hiring, orientation, monitoring and evaluating performance, problem solving, employee counseling, staffing, payroll and budget.
- Serve as a contact for internal and external customers; maintain a safe environment of care and foster positive customer service while meeting quality standards; implement new and monitor ongoing processes.
- Provide leadership succession opportunities and contribute to recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts.
- Provide direct patient care competencies as required for the population served.
- Develop and monitor staffing plans; coordinate day-to-day unit operations, patient placements, and staff assignments; manage scheduling and approvals for PTO; adjust staffing to meet needs; participate in organizational committees and meetings; liaise with manager as needed.
- Act as clinical expert resource, mentoring staff, maintaining positive relationships, and building teamwork within the healthcare team; stay current on guidelines, policies, procedures, and standards.
- Provide input into guidelines, policies, procedures, and standards; act as first responder for clinical and service recovery issues; mentor staff on job performance; provide ongoing feedback and development plans.
- Supervise personnel accountable to the nurse manager; monitor staff performance; participate in performance evaluations and discipline with manager involvement; co-facilitate planning and conducting of shared governance; support staff chairs of shared governance; facilitate unit meetings and recruitment; support a culture of innovation and creativity.
- Maintain awareness of department staffing, budget, and patient flow; ensure staffing levels meet department goals.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Nursing and 2 years of clinical experience required.Master's degree in Nursing preferred.Previous management or formal / informal leadership experience preferred.Education / experience level may differ for the specific department / unit.Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing with the State of Michigan.Advanced Nursing Specific Certification preferred.Department-specific requirements such as PALS, BLS, ACLS, etc.Unit Coordinators in Labor & Delivery and Mother / Baby / Antepartum at BMH & BBC : Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification through PQF or NCC required within 6 months of completing intermediate fetal monitoring.Shift & Schedule

The Recipient Rights Office is responsible for protecting recipient rights and related duties as outlined by the Michigan Mental Health Code, including providing access to rights information and training, maintaining records, and coordinating annual reporting to the State and the Recipient Rights Advisory Committee.Bronson Lakeview Neurobehavioral Health requires all employees participate in recipient rights education, and the Recipient Rights Officer and Advisors provide guidance and advocacy to staff and recipients.Responsibilities include conducting investigations where appropriate, visiting sites to protect rights, maintaining complaint records, and ensuring compliance with the rights system across BBC sites.The annual report includes summary data by category, substantiated rights violations, remedial actions, training, and recommendations to the governing board and the State.Coordinate meetings of the Recipient Rights Advisory Committee and serve as advocate to recipients and families; collaborate with Community Mental Health as appropriate.Job Details
